Article: SP giving country artist Stephen Kellogg advice

Postby Lora » Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:47 pm

Came across this article and thought it was cute. Here's an excerpt where the artist (Stephen Kellogg) talks about a brief encounter with Steve:

County Music Pride wrote:CMP: Equally as significant, how was recording “Oh Adeline” with the legend himself, former Journey frontman Steve Perry?

SK: Oh my God. Well, I should clarify the version we released doesn’t have any Steve Perry on it but here’s what happened. We’re at this studio in L.A. and this song, “Oh Adeline,” really I wasn’t sure if the first version we cut of it was right. Steve Perry is friends with the guy who’s producing The Bear and he brings Steve in and I’m blown away. And like most people in America, I own Journey’s Greatest Hits and love it. And he comes up with this countermelody and says, ‘Oh you gotta do this.’ So we have this little recording of me and him and the producer, and of course we didn’t end up using it. His part never did get recorded. So all I have is a Dictaphone of me and Steve Perry singing this song. I called my wife later that night and she asked me, ‘Where have you been?’ I was given a solid pass when I told her I’d been working on a song with Steve Perry, for sure.

It's so funny...he just seems to float in and out of people's writing and recording sessions, sprinkling magic SP dust and then disappearing into the night. lol

Steve, you can come down to ANY of my jam sessions!

I like that - magic Perry dust!!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Thank you Lora for bringing this very cute article to our attention.

I read the article in its entirety and saw this.............

CMP: Do you think that version will ever be released?

SK: I do. I think they’re going to put it out as a B-Side on Amazon.com. It’s called “Oh Adeline #2” and it will come as a free track with the album.

I think he was saying that the countermelody that Steve suggested will be included on the B side as Oh Adeline #2. It would have been really cool for him to
release his dictaphone version of Steve Perry, Stephen K and the producer too. 8) 8) All the loons would be buying his album.

Not in my house.
I'd lock a mofo out and file papers if he called to tell me Steve Perry showed up and didn't call me immediately.

Thanks so much Lora. As for country music. For me it depends on the song. But then it always does depend on the song.

Not really hardcore country at all. Closer to Miley and Taylor's crossover type music.

Thanks Ms. Lora......

The lyrics and musical arrangement are wonderful.
The lyrics are especially expressing the greater
thoughts......lol! I myself like some country or any
style of music if it strikes accord with me.

Makes you wonder......Oh Adeline, Oh Sherrie ...

And Steve is blessed to feel the love of a
veteran who can share his knowledge with
younger people to make the good even better....

Found someones attempt at the lyrics at

Oh Adeline #2 lyrics

Here's my best attempt...

I'm gonna need a second heart for all this love
Gonna need a better answer to the problems of the world
Vivid is my eyesight, it's scary, but I'm feeling so alive

And everything is gonna be fine, fine, fine
Fine, fine, fine
Oh Adeline

I'm so completed now
You have no idea, just how
I've been affected, you'll never be neglected
From these arms of mine

There's gonna be a lot of judgments being made
And it's okay 'cause sometimes everyone's afraid
And all the money in the world will never save you if the people who surround you can't make time

And everything is gonna be fine, fine, fine
Fine, fine, fine
Oh Adeline

I'm so completed now
You have no idea, just how
I've been affected, you'll always be protected
From these arms of mine
In these arms of mine
In these arms of mine
These arms of mine

Yeah, 'cause everything is different in the world today
People so divided by the things they think about
God and religion, [a promise got broken]??
I don't need a book when I could stare into your eyes
And see palaces built before or any known tongue was spoken

And this little light of mine
I'm gonna let it just shine, shine, shine
Shine, shine, shine
Oh Adeline

I'm so completed now
You have no idea, just how
If you're lost, you will be found
You will never be without
These arms of mine
In these arms of mine
In these arms of mine
Oh, these arms of mine
You will never be without
I hope you know
You're really gonna need a second heart

I hope you know, I hope you know
Where you go
You will be home
I hope you know
Everything is gonna be fine
(repeat)

Oh Adeline
Everything is gonna be...

God Bless
:D
