A good idea to start his own solo band while Journey is still going strong?

Neal is putting together his own solo band

Postby parfait » Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:25 pm

Straight from Neal's facebook:

Neal Schon wrote:Ok so I'm putting together a band right now and planning on going out Solo for the first time ever... I'm gonna play a F--king Rocking set consisting of Blues, H.S.A.S. , Soul Sirkus and possibly some very early Journey... and who knows what else once we get together. Anybody up for this?

What follows is around sixty comments stating like: Coolz! You needz new dudz? I can get you Ed Hardyz?lolz!!!, and: I playz banjo! Can I join pliiiiise?!!! You rock my sockz!

I think it's great news for Neal (not for Journey). Maybe finally Neal can find a good bass man and kick that acne scarred Valory from the J-club. But I don't get the timing though - wouldn't now be the time to work on a GOOD album, instead of pumping out a mediocre one? Now's the time to collaborate and write some really cool music. :)

Great. Neal can't sit around for a year and a half. He's always had projects when he's not touring with Journey. Still plenty of time for the album. It's not like he would be touring all year. Maybe even playing just certain areas. But still needs to make that solo album, which doesn't take him long at all to do that.

Gregg fuckin Rolie.

I'll beat Neal will do some singing too.

This'll be awesome... it'd be incredible if he did a tour of small venues like Luke did. I got to watch Luke jam for two and a half hours close enough to toast beers with him. That was great

I could see NEAL and ROLIE... doing something... I love this idea...

or just NEAL and his guitar running around the country that would be awesome.

Could you imagine if Neal got SP to sing in his "new" solo band?

That would be WAY COOL on so many different levels...

That's funny cause I was thinking the same. Maybe he doesn't want to sing in Journey but might do a few shows with Neal :D :D . Ok back to reality now!!!

So we have screeching, diction problems and backup tapes. Outside of Perry, Mike Reno is probably the best vocalist Schon has worked with compared to everyone else. Since he helped out on Mike's album, maybe Mike can return the favor.

If this is Neal's chance to put together his ultimate band, it would include the following (straight from the horse's mouth)

Paul Rogers, Vocals
Neal Schon, Guitar (duh)
Marco Mendoza, Bass
Deen Castronovo, Drums

What's Paul been up to these days?

According to his website, he's just doing some (sold out) gigs.

But damn, Paul Rodgers is the man! Swap Castronovo with Simon Phillips, and you've got yourself the kryptonite allstars. No one, except for Jeff, could lay the smacketh down on those drums like Simon Phillips.

I would go see Neal solo before I would go see Journey. If he plays HSAS stuff, I may expire right there at the show. Can't wait for whatever Neal puts together!!!

I'd love to see Neal and Paul or Neal and Sammy or Neal and Rolie or Neal and Neal. :D :D I really hope he does this.

Here's Neal with BadCo from the Merchants of Cool DVD.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpAoRA1lwXE

A little club tour with Slash would also be fantastic.
