THE WHO to rock Super Bowl XLIV Halftime...

This should be GREAT...both Daltrey and Townshend are older than dirt, but performing like men less than HALF their age!

Hopefully Daltrey's voice can hold out - my dad caught him a cpl weeks ago and he was good while he lasted, but had to quit (after an hour, so he should be fine for this) because he just couldn't do it. he hasn't sounded too hot on the last cpl live DVDS either.

He's been having issues for a few years now. When I last saw them, Sept. 2006, his voice blew right in the middle of a song. He pulled over and did a fix-a-flat while Pete was left to pinch hit for "My Generation" (fk'n yikes on that, btw) and Rog was back by the next tune.

Daltrey did have to cancel a show a couple days ago, though. :?

BTW the guy who wrote the article forgets the last time the younger crowd did the halftime show (MTV) ... they F**K UP ROYALITY and got CBS in so much trouble, if you all remember!!! the Janet Jackson fiasco... ;-) so thats why its older more mainstream performers now... and it works!!

Yeah. I'm pretty sure Roger isn't going to whip his dick out. Should be no problem here.

Yeah, I assume it's the same thing that went on with my dad's show... he said Daltrey sounded like he had swalloed a bag of razors when he was trying to talk in between songs (think Tom Waits). He said you couldn't even understand what he was trying to say. Whatever song he stopped on, he started over twice and then just said to the crowd "I can't fucking do it" and had to stop. All that screaming and belting will catch up to you after what, 40~45 years of doin it?

"The Who" haven't existed since Keith Moon died.

Gotta disagree there. Great drummer but Townshend and Daltrey are the dual faces of that group and always have been.

They haven't been phenomenal since Moonie died.
The Kenny Jones years... meh.

Once they got Zak Starkey on board, they pulled it back way up.
That guy is as close to Moonie as they could ever hope to get!! Amazing drummer.

Not even close. The Who are kind of like the Beatles...if you don't have the 4 of them...you don't have The Who.

Pete needs to tour solo and Roger...well...needs to be put out to "stud"!

I stand by my original comment. Anyone who dares to think that this current "incarnation/bastardization" calling themselves "The Who" even remotely approaches the pure unbridled energy, creativity, power, and aura of the original lineup...has NO CLUE what they are talking about and really needs to go back and review some old concert footage of the REAL WHO to remind themself of exactly what that band was all about!

Not trying to be a prick but, really...C'MON!

As for you...

I do have a clue what I'm talking about. Been a fan since I was 6. I agree with you in that going back to the Moon footage shows just what made that band rock your face off, and no, it's never going to be the same again when you lose such an intregal part of what makes a great band (Hi, Journey!), and I believe what I said was that Zak is as close as they could HOPE to get, meaning no, of course it isn't the same. But Zak is a monster and he does plenty of justice to the impossible to match style and talent of Keith John Moon, god damn it. :x :D :o 8) And Zak more than makes up for the wasted Jones years, too.

LOVE the Who, but yeah, Roger's voice is pretty much gone these days. I was VERY surprised that Eddie Vedder did a great job on their songs for the VH1 Honors thing. I can't stand Vedder (sounds like a goat to me), but he did those songs really well.

Zak is phenominal. GREAT drummer. When Kenny Jones was drumming for them, I couldn't get into it. I saw a show from the tour that he joined and man, it just didn't have the energy. Zak brings all that back, at least from the drums. Still miss the Ox though.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Don't they get the option of lipping at the superbowl anyway? The instruments won't be live regardless, right?

... and the "audience" will be full of young punks that have NO idea who The Who are. They just get paid to come in and rush the stage and look like they're just ecstatic to be in the presence of whatever band they've propped up to be there.

I HATE the Superbowl shows. The most fakey, bullcrap ever.

I've been a Who fan since 1970. I love those guys but IMO the only thing they should be rockin' is their rocking chairs. How much money do these guys need? Retire already! I just hope they don't embarrass themselves Daltry can't sing anymore. Listen to this version of Baba O'Riley from 2006.

It's just too hard to sound good at the Super Bowl doing it legit. Think about a real concert, how long it takes them to set up. You really think they can get it anywhere near right in the amount of time they have to set up?

58. When the lead singer needs que cards to remember the lyrics that they have been singing for over 35 years!
59. NEVER- Rock on!! You've earned it.
60. When there are more doctor's visits while on tour for brittle broken bones than veneral disease checkups.
61. When people mistake your lead singer for Joan Rivers. (Stephen Tyler looks like he is melting)
