Worst draft bungles in sports history.....

I was thinking that we should change topics from all that anger in the football thread.....

I was thinking.....probably the one draft bungle that comes to mind is Portland and Houston passing up Jordan to pick Olajuwon and Sam Bowie(WHO?) lol

Another one would have to be the NE Patriots passing up Danny Marino, Willie Gault, and Darrell Green to pick up Tony Useless Eason in 1983. They almost had Jim Kelly who went one pick before at 14.

Tony Eason was DREADFUL. Hell, the great John Hannah (one of his offensive lineman) said that the guy should wear a skirt. How about just recently when the Patriots could have had DeAngelo Williams or Maurice Jones-Drew but instead drafted that stiff Laurence Maroney, who can't get out of his own way

Hell, even guys like Reggie Bush haven't really amounted to anything, considering what the guy was in college! Blair Thomas was an all world running back at Penn State and was a complete bust when he got to the Jets!

I honestly think Young would be a very good NFL QB, so I'm not surprised thusfar with the results. He's a bit of a headcase, which NEVER works as an NFL QB. That said, I think the jury is still a bit out for many on the Vince Young experiment. I say he won't get much better than he is, but we shall see.

To continue this one step further, I think, as an OU fan, Sam Bradford is very talented, but will not do well in the NFL.

How about this guy? He was number 7 in round one for San Francisco. He came back to Blacksburg for a weekend and picked up an intoxicated girl in a bar. She was passed out and he did the honorable thing and screwed/raped her. Long story short, he was charged with rape and San Francisco got rid of him. The last I saw of him was the WWF Football league and he was playing for the Las Vegas team.

I have left off KW2 and Kamerion Wimbley. KW2 is still a hell of a player and HAS performed, unlike Braylon, although he is a similar prima donna cancerous type. Wimbley has been a solid player, not 1st round caliber, but I won't dog him too hard for being solid.

This would get fuckin ugly real quick if I got into our 2nd/3rd round picks as well

Yeah...Bosworth probably got more predraft publicity than any player I remember in my lifetime. The problem was that the guy simply couldn't play...AT ALL!

Your memory is a bit off. Bosworth was NEVER, EVER, EVER remotely close to "incredible". The dude basically had a 2 year career where he very rarely even made any tackles and ended up on the bench!

I meant from the media standpoint, I remember all the hysteria about Brian until that night when Bo ran over his ass. After that Brian was a non NFL player. Like I said, I don't remember the sequence of the years, I was probably drunk when I watched that game.

Don't forget David Klingler, Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson, Pete Koch, Jason Buck, Reinard Wilson, and last but not least Rickey Hunley.

Klingler is a good one, but Wilkinson doesn't work at all. While he never quite turned into the player he was hyped to be, the guy had a 13 year NFL career (which is forever for a D lineman). He averaged about 7 sacks per season over the first 8 years of his career. While those aren't eye-popping numbers, he was at least a serviceable NFL player!
