THE WHO to rock Super Bowl XLIV Halftime...

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

Maybe Britney Spears could join them . I would rather see Def Leppard sync. Isn't Van Halen available. I still laugh at Neal burying Rogers struming with some real picking on YouTube.

They haven't been phenomenal since Moonie died.
The Kenny Jones years... meh.

Once they got Zak Starkey on board, they pulled it back way up.
That guy is as close to Moonie as they could ever hope to get!! Amazing drummer.

Not even close. The Who are kind of like the Beatles...if you don't have the 4 of them...you don't have The Who.

Pete needs to tour solo and Roger...well...needs to be put out to "stud"!

I stand by my original comment. Anyone who dares to think that this current "incarnation/bastardization" calling themselves "The Who" even remotely approaches the pure unbridled energy, creativity, power, and aura of the original lineup...has NO CLUE what they are talking about and really needs to go back and review some old concert footage of the REAL WHO to remind themself of exactly what that band was all about!

Not trying to be a prick but, really...C'MON!

8)

As for you...

I do have a clue what I'm talking about. Been a fan since I was 6. I agree with you in that going back to the Moon footage shows just what made that band rock your face off, and no, it's never going to be the same again when you lose such an intregal part of what makes a great band (Hi, Journey!), and I believe what I said was that Zak is as close as they could HOPE to get, meaning no, of course it isn't the same. But Zak is a monster and he does plenty of justice to the impossible to match style and talent of Keith John Moon, god damn it. :x :D :o 8) And Zak more than makes up for the wasted Jones years, too.

And as for YOU...

You are WRONG, IMO...and I haven't even brought up "Thunderfingers" yet! Just "who" (no pun intended) is a "worthy" replacement for him????!
My point is this...Roger needed money and had to "milk" the Who's back catalog for awhile to eat. Pete complied. It all is just in "bad taste"...much like the current "Journey" lineup.

Again...all IMO!

No one!! Clearly there is no replacing the Ox, or Moonie - best damn rhythm team in rock right there.

But Pino is great! Plus, I was at that first show just days after John passed, when Pino had to jump in on a couple of days notice... and he did his job and did it very very well!! That was a really hard show and they pulled it off amazingly.

You sir, know not to whom you speak. This band is an area of expertise for me.

I wish Pete with knock it off with all the commercialism though. I about had it with that shit years ago.

And do NOT compare this band to Journey. They have Starkey and Palladino, yes, but their original drummer and bassist died. We're not talking about a bunch of crybabies who can't get along and fire their singers every 20 minutes, come on.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, I just read this:

"thewhodotcom the who at superbowl? gorgeous rumour. wouldn't it be great?
about 8 hours ago from Tweetie "

:?:  :( :?:

edit: now on Facebook on their page:

The Who "the who - superbowl? rumours, rumours!"

What the hell?

Bruce was live last year right? Deano....am I remembering correctly?

We have the technology now to do these live more than we did even 5 years ago on that big movable stage. I'm sure if they hired Britney Spears and gave her the option she'd take the lip route

I don't think he was. I think vocally he was, but that was it. I may be wrong, but I remember coming across that somewhere.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

What's problem with the Who being chosen? Who would you prefer? They are a classic rock act, who won't pull each others dicks out and will act professional, like the other classic rock acts out there did, McCartney, Springsteen and the Stones all come to mind.

Vocally Bruce was live as was the backup singing, but I believe some instruments were prerecorded. In the Super Bowl exclusive I have, Bruce wanted to be all live, but due to no time to soundcheck and the very much needed rush to get the equipment on stage, the chance was too great they would sound off or sound terrible. Bruce wasn't about to chance that, so they canned the music, except his guitar and the drums. I do know Prince was 100% all lipped and faked as well as MJ.

As for the Who, I like the choice. My money was on Shania Twain as she is coming out with a new record, but couldn't remember if she did it before or not? Seem to remember her and that No Doubt bitch doing halftime together before.

Billy Joel would have been a good choice as would have Bon Jovi, but two Jersey guys back to back would seem a bit much.

The big question is Journey. Are they going to get the Beer tent gig again, and will Pineda grow up and be professional this time around? :?

Exactly. If The Who performing isn't a rumor, as it's now being claimed, it will be awesome.

Justin Timberlake? Whose genius idea was that?!
Janet's titty popping out was the ONLY thing entertaining about that performance.
And I'm a fan of hers! I thought it was going to be cool until that Backstreet Boy showed up too, or whatever he is.

I don't think Jon could pull off a live vocal in that setting singing the popular hard driving songs. He has been lipping for awhile now. Yes it's true, he needs help on the higher notes and the harder songs. He has gotten thin like Bono has.

LOL, no way, I like the guys in Jovi a lot better than the shitheads in Journey. However, we could give that Bon Jovi forum a serious shot in the arm couldn't we. Full scale all out wars, screaming, finger pointing, etc. Andrew would appreciate that immensely. He told me he wants more traffic. Hmm

As funny as it sounds, I was thinking of a more Melodic group. Like something the peeps here listen to.....like JSS, or W.E.T., of Brother Firetribe, or WigWam, or something the freakin mainstream rich fucks that go to the Super Bowl has never heard before. I don't know, color me crazy.

Even modern day Loverboy is a better choice than the Whosbeens.....

Yeah no one would go for that though.

I'd love to see Night Ranger roll out there, American flag stage, amps to 11, You Can Still Rock in America, 8-finger tapping solo in your eye, but that'll never happen

I know one thing...you don't know The Who like you "think" you do. Believe me, I know what I am talking about.

Pete himself has admitted that the heart and soul of the band more or less died with Keith. He continued on with the band with that knowledge and anyone who ever actually SAW the band in their "heyday" realizes that, however great the current lineup is musically, it is NOT "The Who"...the all-time greatest and "original" PUNK band!

I stand by my statement about Journey as well...the comparison is that BOTH bands are more or less "milking" their back catalogs with "replacement" band members (for whatever reason).

Now...CHILL.

I wonder if all the Plokkers are pissed because Arnel Pineda and the Lombard Street Band aren't headlining the Halftime show this year. They were pissed about last years snub, and I was wondering what level of agitation they must feel this year. LOL, what a bunch of dopes. Somebody go over to that site and get the lowdown. Gunbot, hop on that fat ass. Get the goods and bring us some news will ya? :D

They are appearing for the most part, actually resigned to the fact that Bon Jovi or someone else will be there. They seem pretty content having Pineda in The Philippines, performing weekly on the variety shows doing Bryan Adams covers, playing second fiddle to popular, local Pinoy artists.

It kicked ass "but it was definitely lipped." oh, LOL. Well, then bring Britney for half-time then. She can kick ass as long as she doesn't have to sing.

Even with the help of Lipping, Janet Jackson and Justin were just okay for me on half-time. They had to resort to tricks to try to make it interesting.

Get Pink up there. She will sing live and kick ass on stage.

Can't argue with you there. In the U.S. I've never seen TFF lip on Leno or any of those shows, but in his TV European appearances in the late 90s it's like that's what they do on some of the TV shows. Some live, some not. I couldn't tell on this clip at first vocally, except I don't see any wires anywhere or amps. They just walk out into that circle
