Love this guy's voice - it's so distinctive and this song always puts me in a good mood (so I play it alot on my way to work). Don't see him singing country, but this is definitely a crossover to pop.

His whole alubm is really good... there's a lot of Hootie haters on here though

The Gin Blossoms - Learning The Hard Way (off their latest album, Major Lodge Victory) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hzJBHwrNeY

EDIT: This is far from what I'd consider a guilty pleasure, so is Darius Rucker for that matter. Fuck it, I guess this is just about pop songs now

How can this be a modern-day pop song that is a guilty pleasure, which was the topic? They're a great band.

Yeah, what happened to the topic? Modern-day "POP" songs that are guilty pleasures. Gin Blossoms are an alternative rock band. I don't consider their songs pop songs in the least.

Yeah, what happened to the topic? "POP" songs that are guilty pleasures. Gin Blossoms are an alternative rock band.

Well, that's a whole other debate of labeling genres that is a story for another thread. To me, Gin Blossoms are actually "power pop," or at least the heirs apparent to it. They follow in the footsteps of bands like Badfinger, Marshall Crenshaw (who helped co-write Til I Hear it From You and maybe one or two of their other big ones), and the Raspberries.

As far as them belonging in this thread, well, I guess I should re-name it or something. It'd be good just to get people talking about some different styles of music here, it's too homogenized around here sometimes

Okay. I get that then, or start a second thread. But I was naming guilty pleasure pop songs like a Britney song and here Kings of Leon, a great band, and Gin Blossoms, another great band, get posted. I was confused.
