A good idea to start his own solo band while Journey is still going strong?

Wouldn't this be an awesome scenario? Perhaps even Rolling Stone would give him a huge nod... :)

I think this is a great idea - I would love to see a Neal solo project in any form! And I like Neal's vocals ('People and Places', 'Late Nite', etc.), but if he is doing HSAS and such, I have a feeling he'll be bringing in a lead singer.

If it goes well and they produce an album, even just from the live performances, I'll be buying it. It may be the only chance the guy has to put out a heavier rock album. We complain that Neal keeps promising one, but I'll bet he is more disappointed than we are when the Journey albums get loaded with sappy ballads - he has to play that stuff every night!

I would pay to see Schon play his solo stuff...especially in the right setting and with the right band.

An hour and a half of him just shredding would get old. How about half a set with a vocalist that rocks out and the other half Neal playing his melodic guitar like no one else can.

I'm there!

By the way, what ever happened to him playing on some of the new, young performers' CDs...especially one of the young hotties. I thought there was talk about that a long time ago. Can't remember who it was though.

I think Arnel would be the last person he would want. He's not looking to be out there as Journey lite. Imagine, Schon's playing some jammin' blues tune and some knucklehead starts yelling out "Play Don't Stop Believin'!". I think Neal just wants to get out there and rock, with no ballads or pop songs on his playlist.

Besides, isn't Arnel supposed to be resting his pipes? Not to mention, when he's not with Journey, doesn't Bert De Leon own his ass.
Anyway, since Neal will be touring on his own sans Azoff, its obvious that minimum expenses will be the norm so I would think no separate buses, family tag alongs or any of that stuff the band members are accustomed to while on tour.

I wasn't thinking that they'd go out there and sound like Journey/Perry/Arnel and Perryish voice. I thought maybe they would have a more rocking edge to them. Arnel has the pipes for that too.

I understood that. I just don't think it would be Arnel. When you read what Schon wrote, I think he would have mentioned AP right off the bat if that was the case. Deen is the only guy I can see him using from the band. After having Arnel sing stepped down this year, why bring him on his own solo tour at minimum pay instead of letting Pineda do his own thing? Arnel seems happy doing the cover song gigs. He's at home with his family, why would Neal mess with that?

And be honest. If Arnel was with him, the crowd would expect (and rightfully so) that they perform Journey songs, especially since he mention he might play the older material. No way, that wouldn't be the buzz going around these shows.

Hey Deb, I'm sure we'll be meeting up at a show. If this happens I guarantee I'll be there for at least a couple. You know he will do Chicago, not sure about Texas, so get your traveling shoes on. Although somewhere warm and sunny sounds a lot better than Chicago. Come on Neal, we all need a winter vacation.

Exactly. Who needs a stand alone singer for this type of jamming? Neal and Rolie will be good enough.

Piranha Blues II, bring back Richard Martin Ross if he wants. Don't really care who as long as its not a Journey guy. Do some bars, do some festivals. Start in New Orleans and work his way up to Chicago. Call it the Mississippi Mud tour.

Get Rolie, that'd be great. Do an album with special guests for singers. Get guests to sit in wherever he goes. Just get out there and do it. Right now, I'd much rather see Schon solo again than more Journey.
