Good Lord. This is "evidence"? I love how the word "allegedly" is the backbone of the anti-conspiratists' theory.

Sorry. Even if this did happen, it doesn't discount the thousands of other reliable sources that irrefutably prove global warming is (at least partially) caused by humankind. Rather akin to the "smoking gun" trailer they found in Iraq that turned out NOT to be WMD's. Give me a break.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I'm usually a social liberal, but I don't realy swing one way or the other on the whole Global Warming thing.

Take a look at our past global temperature ranges:

Image

What was it that caused the "global warming" during the years 1100 B.C. and 1300 A.D.? Were the LA freeways clogged back then? Was China burning more fossil fuels than ever before? No, it was just a natural occurence. I personally don't think there is much that man can do to throw the earth off course, short of a nuclear armageddon.

I never really thought anyone was stupid enough to believe in global warming. Figured it was just partisan sheep going along with the "Bucks from dumbfucks" program. There has never been a shred of evidence to suggest it exists and a mountain of evidence that would almost surpass Oprah's buffet plate to suggest it's bullshit! People actually thought it existed??? Bwahahahahaha.

We never heard of this in the early 70's,then someone noticed a hole in the Ozone layer and its been the end of the world ever since. Just because we now had the ability to see that doesn't mean it wasn't normal for billions of years. Oh ,and by the way, there is $$$$ huge $$$$$$$$$ to be made. Right Al ? This planet has had warming and cooling periods for over 4 BILLION yrs. Parts have been under water, ice, tropics, sand and islands formed and sank. THINK ! We can't put all of the climate changes in our lifetime and yell global warming. The big volcanoes under ocean heavily contribute. The temp of the oceans create El Nino or La Nina . Sunspots or the lack there of are a huge component. BYW ,good ole Faithfull at Yellowstone is one of the 10 super volcanos that could spew enough dust and contaminates to stop growing seasons around the earth. There are bigger things than man. Man should recycle and whatever else he can do to keep the planet clean. Don't let politicians tax even more of what you make in the name of global warming which scientists are half & half depending on who funds their never ending studies. A big $ maker in this GE. They want those new mercury bulbs ,which they have made in China, to sell like crazy @ $ 5-6. They will fund many elections with that money to get more Gov't deals.

Geologists and scientists who actually study the Earth's evolution are well aware that changes in the planet's temperatures are normal and always have been. We cannot control it any more than we can control sunspots, volcanic eruptions, or getting hit by a meteor. The planet is like a giant engine and if more people studied and understood the mechanics of it and the energy and forces that drive it, they would not be so quick to believe that SUVs and cow farts are melting our glaciers. What we should be eyeing with suspicion is the fact that an entire industry has been created over the theory that the current climate changes are man made. Look at the governments, industries, and individuals who are getting rich over this. Humans didn't create the last Ice Age or the Medieval Warming Period and they won't create the next phase in our planet's climate shift.

Climate change is a reality, but we need to understand that it is not going away even if we all start living like Ed Begley Jr. What we should be pushing our governments for is a plan of action to ensure that we can survive whatever might be heading our way - many reputable scientists believe that the past warming trends are a precursor to a great cooling period, so start stocking up on your thermals.

I believe we should be developing clean energy, holding companies and individuals responsible for waste and pollution, and preserving our environment, but the popular mindset and current movement regarding climate change has become a lifestyle and I'm not jumping on their bandwagon.

One drive through LA on a bad smog day is reason enough to get away from fossil fuels.

Keith,

Thanks for your consideration. Once I get a draft of the central and southern siberian data and talk to Stepan and Eugene I'll send it to you.

I really wish I could be more positive about the Kyrgyzstan material, but I swear I pulled every trick out of my sleeve trying to milk something out of that. It was pretty funny though - I told Malcolm what you said about my possibly being too Graybill-like in evaluating the response functions - he laughed and said that's what he thought at first also. The data's tempting but there's too much variation even within stands. I don't think it'd be productive to try and juggle the chronology statistics any more than I already have - they just are what they are (that does sound Graybillian). I think I'll have to look for an option where I can let this little story go as it is.

Not having seen the sites I can only speculate, but I'd be optimistic if someone could get back there and spend more time collecting samples, particularly at the upper elevations.

Yeah, I doubt I'll be over your way anytime soon. Too bad, I'd like to get together with you and Ed for a beer or two. Probably someday though.

Cheers, Gary

Some head-scratching and pondering from Der Spiegel on global temps ....

http://www.spiegel.de/international/wor ... 92,00.html

Climatologists Baffled by Global Warming Time-Out

Just a few weeks ago, Britain's Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research added more fuel to the fire with its latest calculations of global average temperatures. According to the Hadley figures, the world grew warmer by 0.07 degrees Celsius from 1999 to 2008 and not by the 0.2 degrees Celsius assumed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. And, say the British experts, when their figure is adjusted for two naturally occurring climate phenomena, El Niño and La Niña, the resulting temperature trend is reduced to 0.0 degrees Celsius -- in other words, a standstill.

Whoops.

thats why the time out is needed... it is fake... the whole premise is nothing but to give GRANTs to research FIRMS who agree with AL GORE and to keep his grants coming.. plus being able to lFLY around the world numerous times with out feeling guilty about it... but yet makes everyone else feel guilty of their own travels... IE carben credits...

PROGRAMS govt is good at... NONE... programs people are GREAT at millions... okay maybe a bit extreme... but look at it this way, when it comes to universal health care and taxes... this week what did a govt panel say about mamagrams... not until the women is 50... talk about rationing...

Well-put. And liberals, kindly go fuck yourselves for playing the "selfish" card.

You know what's selfish? Expecting a free ride from honest, hard-working people... like crapping 6 kids out knowing full well you don't have the means to support one kid, let alone six, and then turning around and screaming HELP ME!

Fuck that, and fuck all of you for trying to play the selfish card. It doesn't make me (or anyone else with half a brain in their heads) feel bad at all when you do that.

Not too many people think only of themselves. I think of my family. Those are the people I want to help. I don't want to be forced to help some scumbag that expects a free ride, not 1 cent. I'm sorry.

Soup kitchens, food drives, clothing drives, and all that kind of stuff are the ways I like to help impoverished people. I used to help out at a soup kitchen in Erie, PA and that was one of the most fulfilling experiences I've ever had doing charity/altruistic work. When taxes are gorging on honest people's pay, it makes them angry and the worst part of it all, is that the people who really need the help (and really deserve it... some poor people don't deserve the help) don't get it, some scumbag scamming the system or some crooked politician gets it. Ugh
