honestly, I think you see heavy people drinking it because of the mentality i have  "oh, well I'll have that diet coke so I can have fries with that and lower the calories" fries STILL make you fat even with diet coke I think I figured out!!

I think you're right, Lynn. The mentality is to steal calories from one food to have them/justify them in another. WELL over 90% of the time I am drinking water, skim milk or green tea. And regrdless of what you're drinking I think you look great! :)

Right on Lynn - that's the mentality of many diet drinkers. That doesn't work, obviously

That explains the phenomenon you witness with thin-Coke fat-Diet Coke, Dan

Hmm. I voted, then I instantly wished I'd picked the other. I voted for Pepsi, because I love diet Pepsi, and do not like diet Coke. But... if you look at ALL the products in both lines, Coke has the better products overall.

I drink diet because I have to, not want to, and I don't like diet Coke (unless it's the only thing available, then I'll suffer through it), so my autoresponse is "Pepsi". But Coke overal has the better cherry version, and had the better lime version (and I'm pissed they stoped making it, or stores stopped carrying it, whichever - either way I can't find it).

I'm giving Pepsi the win on the vanilla though, and wish they'd bring that back. Pepsi does have Sierra Mist, though, which I like.

But... I rarely drink pop anymore anyway so it doesn't really matter. POM Light Pomegranate Hibiscus Tea is the way to go. :D

awe, thanks dan! I do that steal calories to justify all the time even though I know logically it makes no sense! I do drink mostly water though. Too much of anything else is definitely bad! I agree!

I can drink Pepsi or Coke, but I think Pepsi tastes much better. Coke has a bitter taste that I don't really care for, especially the Dite Coke.

I dunno Dan. I've heard that about metabolism too. diet is loaded with salt as well. it makes my stomach feel weird now that I don't drink it everyday. I also heard that it increases cravings and acts like sugar in your system as far as the metabolism is concerned. What about the whole headache thing too.....

I rarely drink any of it anymore. black coffee. water. tea sent from a friend in England. that's about it.

march forward don't look back

Arfm now. tune in. Whitesnake is up first!! fire up that coffee pot and clean house for the turkey day! and Styx/REO tomorrow!!

I think I have you beat. I drink 1-2 cans per year.

Never liked pop, and after reading what it does to the body, I have even less desire to drink it.

I think the headache stuff is caffeine addiction.

I don't know about "loaded" with salt... what's the sodium content? Very low from what I remember. Salt's also not a bad thing in and of itself, especially if you drink a lot of water and ESPECIALLY if you're physically active... you need it, in fact. Salt is not a worry for me anyway, no hypertension anywhere in my family and I work out religiously. I gotta watch fatty stuff because we have bad cholesterol problems on my dad's side all the way through (he already had triple bypass at 50).

Not sure about cravings... I think it comes down to people not having will power to not eat stuff that's bad for them all the time more than any chemical effect

One thing's for sure, no pop, regular or diet, is that great for you, but like anything else, it's fine in moderation. I'm inclined to believe loading yourself up on coffee all day every day, which most people 21+ do, is a lot more unhealthy than havin 7 diet pops a day. Massive caffeine, stains your teeth, calories... can't be good for you. I never drink coffee and don't ever plan on starting.

Here in Tucson we have access to "REAL" Coca Cola... which comes up from Mexico.

Meaning Coke made with pure cane sugar rather than that shitty goo called "corn syrup"

Coke made with pure cane sugar has about half the calories of coke made with corn syrup because sugar is sweeter than corn syrup so you use less, + it has a lower glycemic index.

It takes like the Coke most of you remember as a kid, and it comes in the same cool glass bottles. It's pretty much awesome. :)

Complete opposite. Pepsi has a sweeter taste and uses less carbonation than Coke

My local Kroger in Cincinnati carries that Mexican Coke. I always wonderd what the difference was. Weird seeing Coke bottles in the same aisle as Salsa and Taco Shells and Burritto Wraps.

hey, I am heading to cincy now! An hour out. Now I'll be checking all the kroger's for the "real" coke

Kroger Superstore at 5 Mile and Beechmont. I swear it used to be there in the Mexican aisle. Been awhile since I paid attention though.

I don't know where that is! We're staying in West Chester with family. They might know though

I've never been much of a soda guy, as it's probably one of the worst things you can put into your body. That said, I've always preferred the taste of Pepsi over Coke, but there will never be anything that comes close to an ice cold glass of water to quench my thirst.
