But when in USA, Pepsi tastes better at a number of locations so I generally go for that. Go figure..... (Yes, AU Coke recipe is a little different.)

Pepsi sucks! Send me a can of AU Coke please. :D

American microbreweries have really picked up the slack in recent years. I think our microbrews (the good ones) can go toe to toe with any good Euro beer.

I usually order 4-5 dogs and 4-5 cokes. :D

4 or 5 hotdogs  I could never eat that many :P and are the cokes those little bottles? Or bigger bottles? I think the glass bottle coke is better. And I don't think it's just in my head

Definitely glass bottled coke is better than can or plastic. Years ago that was all we bought - 8 pack of coke in tall bottles. If we didn't have a bottle opener handy we could open the car door and use that. Cans used to be as thick as what they use for canned food now with a seam & before pop tops. I watched a CNN special last week about Coke and it was pretty amazing...they showed the poorest part of Africa and yet the people there had to get their coke every week...they're just as addicted! Anyone ever see "The Gods must be crazy"? - all about a coke bottle that was tossed from an airplane in the sky and the tribal people thought it was from the gods.

It's small coke bottles of course. And those dogs are so good.anyone can eat 4 of them cause there are no fries on the side :) They have a big ass sign that says "OUR BUNS ARE STEAMED".:)

Tam ,
I just watched Gods Must Be Crazy II yesterday with the kids. 1st time for them , 50th time for me  Out of the 3 they made , I personally think 2nd one is the best. First one is pretty good too.

Cane sugar, not corn syrup, for a start. Plus the Coke syrup in Australia is manufactured in Adelaide, with Adelaide water. You can't replicate that taste anywhere else!

Hate to burst both your bubbles, but birds don't pee. However, I have it on the authority of a drunken acquaintence that Fosters tastes very much the same coming out as it does going in if you are peeing with a yeast infection.

Fabulous! Where will you be going? There are some great microbreweries that have limited distribution. Plus - are you a wine drinker?

Well, Australia is one of the biggest wine producers in the world, and we've got some fantastic wine regions. If she's going to be near any of them, she's going to HAVE to get on a winery tour.

Sadly, Queensland has no wineries and if there is a decent beer brewed there I haven't come across it yet (although I am quite prepared for it to exist.)

If you are spending any time at all in Sydney, try for a day trip out to the Hunter Valley to the north or the Southern Highlands to the south-east and do a winery tour. If you really want to experience the best wines in Australia, you really need to do South Australia and Victoria, but the Hunter has some nice vintages (a lot of NSW wines is pretty much vin de table.) A good place to start if you want to research some Aussie wines to look out for while you are here is the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation - http://www.wineaustralia.com

Aussie beers - can't go wrong with Coopers, Beard and Brau, Boags, Mountain Goat, Cascade, Moo or James Squire. If you can find Moo Wheat Beer, drink it! If you can find Boag's Honey Porter, I'll cry. Tooheys is the standard NSW beer on tap - it's not bad, in the same was Bud isn't bad but also isn't much to write home about. This is a pretty good website for Aussie beers - http://www.beerguide.com.au/ - their reviews are pretty spot on in my experience, if you want some names to look out for, especially for the microbreweries.

Ah, Alice Springs. Only place in the world that has to cancel its boat race because there is water in the river.
