ROR Tour '86 - New Year's Eve Cover Songs

Pretty cool. Never heard this b/f. Live Audio of Auld Lang Syne, Stand By Me, Reach Out. Whatever happened to RaisedonRadio on here? He has such an ROR catalogue on YouTube.

Won't work, Chubs. All bands do a cover song here or there or on a special night. You're not going to get anywhere with that, Chubs. Perry had a hit solo album of just music he wrote solo or with Journey and sang in his solo tour later, not cover song appearance. And he sang Reach Out and Stand By Me in his own voice and style, not mimicing.

By the definition of some people here, singing cover songs is karaoke. Sounding like has nothing to do with it.

Speaking of a cover of Stand by Me, I never knew Julian Lennon was so talented. I had never heard him b/f. His vocals were really great. Good duet Lennon/Orzabal on SBM.

Once you have performing, writing and co-writing credits for 23 top 40 hits (17 with Journey plus 6 more solo), you can sing whatever you want. You've already proved that you can create and not just imitate.

Love ... love this song!!! The band performed Don't Fight It (Steve's solo w/KL) and No More Lies (Neal's w/ JH) on a rotating basis during the Frontiers tour. Seemed kinda unfair Neal had to play and sing backup on this song while Steve sat down and rest on the other ...

Jana- I think Julian had a video or 2 on MTV in the mid 80's. I don't think that he had his fathers writing abilities or playing. He did sound somewhat like him and I hoped he would be taken in by Paul & Ringo for a song or cd.

Seeing as the newest lead singer of Journey is currently prohibited from singing Journey songs when he is away from his brothers, you're right, most definitely a myth.

I always liked this live version...you can really hear Perry singing in two different styles on the different verses since Loggins is not there to sing his own part. Almost as if he's two different singers.

yeah, it does actually. Speaking of Journey ROR covers, their version of "Jailhouse Rock" (from Philadelphia) was TERRIBLE. Gotta be the worst SP performance out there. You could tell he was really abusing his voice on that one.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Actually, Julian's a pretty descent songwriter. Not like John (but then who is?) but check out his album Help Yourself. It's awesome.

LOVE this song from that album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21v9vghS ... re=related

This song is very John.

oh man, cracking and just lyrically... out there. Have a friend who's an Elvis fan and a Journey fan. She started laughing. oh well. When I first got the boot, I liked it because it was different for them, but after listening to it for years, it's pretty obvious that it wasn't a great vocal performance. The rest of the show is pretty good. A few cracks in places, but still pretty cool. It was a Westwood One show. I still have the vinyl somewhere...

I'll agree that his voice was a bit out of control on that song, but the performance itself was electrifying. I think it was just a case of him getting caught up in the 'let's get crazy and rock this crowd' moment. Plus, it's much easier to pick apart this song after analyzing it over and over again. You're not caught up in the moment with 17,00 fans when you're listening at home. Although I wasn't at this show, I have a lot of friends who were there. They all agree that the show was one of the best they've ever seen and Perry was flat-out amazing. Their memories are of the incredible performance rather than the cracked voice.

+1

This logic also applies to everyone who attends a current Journey show rather than sit at home picking apart diction. ;)

The ROR tour was terrible
Michael Biard was one of the worst drummers I ever heard live
Randy Jackson looked foolish in his spandex outfit.
Perry was drunk during the entire tour and Neil was doing blow
Now you know why Perry is out of the buisness AA wins over stardom.
Thanks for the memories Steve stop teasing the fans

Froy, how do you know this? If it's true, I agree with you. We all know (because he was man enough to admit it) what happened with Arnel's voice after he abused drugs and booze. If that's what happened with Perry, that explains a lot. And I totally agree with "Stop teasing the fans".

People that really just want to do that, can do it after attending a live show as well, please!!
You are either bothered by it or you aren't...some are!!!
Some are so into the moment that it doesn't matter!!

to do with emotion!!
