Isn't that the very definition of a package? Heart isn't simply an opening act, so them (or a comparable band) on the bill makes it a package. I agree with you that their popularity is up, but they WILL NOT be booked into amphitheaters or arenas by themselves. Bring along another band or two to make it a great value night of music. That's how you bring people into the seats.

That'll work...I don't care what anyone said, I'm still in agreement w/fightingilliniJRNY...it would
take a good opener or two to get me back before they release new material.
Not because it's not a good show, it's just one of those been there done that things for me!!
Unless, like you stated above~Perry sings!!! I will see that as many times
as I can afford it!!!

Yeah I agree with you there. I would like to see Journey tour with one band, and have it be a band that have havent toured with in a while. No reo or styx for a while lol.

Journey can on occasion fill an Amphitheater by themselves but you can't book 12 shows or more and have them only reach capacity in 4 or 5 of them. The safe bet is to pair them with someone. If it's state fairs and casinos, a weak opening act is fine but if it's like their 2008 tour, the other act should at least be able to headline on their own like Heart or Pat Benatar.

That said, let it be someone new that they haven't toured with in ages, like Triumph, Bryan Adams or the above mentioned Benatar.

Journey and Styx make perfect sense. They don't need a third though.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Never thought I'd agree with a Michigan fan...

It's just a value thing, especially in a non-album year. Would a couple rather pay $50 per seat to see "An Evening with Journey," or $65 a seat to see Journey and Styx, or Journey and Heart, or Journey and Foreigner? It's simply a better value to book two bands on one bill. It might suck for fans to see shortened sets by both bands, but it makes great business sense.

And it's not at all a knock against Journey's drawing power, because it's clear they are still a draw.

Exactly! Journey with Foreigner, or Journey with Pat Benatar...those would be good ones! Never seen foreigner in concert, but hear they are really good live.

This could all still turn out to be miscommunication and Neal will be the only one in Journey touring next year.

HIGHLY recommended. Foreigner is great live. I think they would be an ideal pairing with Journey. The last time they toured together would have been the 1998-1999 Vacation's Over Tour (other than a few shows here and there, like in 2003), so it's long overdue. Have you picked up Foreigner's new CD? It's a great album.

I really hope this isn't true. I can't stand Styx. I guess I just don't "get" their music. Kansas would be OK, but they have about 3 songs I know/like. I'd really like to see them tour with Night Ranger.

I love Foreigner, but I hate the idea of Journey touring with them. The media would probably make too much of both touring with replacement singers.

Now I would also love to see a Journey/Triumph hookup.

I would definitely be up for that. Foreigner would be cool too. But Styx, I could take them or leave them.

Imagine Toto and Journey co-headlining. God damn!

I guess it makes sense to team up with other bands to fill up the big shows, and Styx and Kansas are okay (even though they just have a few good songs), but the thought of Lukather and Neal on the same stage, with Paich, Phillips and Porcaro with Arnel/Kimball. They would be like the damn kryptonite all stars of musicianship.

And I could finally see how the Journey songs are played with expert musicians (Mike Porcaro on bass and Simon Phillips on drums.)

Deen could do some back up singing, while Ross could sell t-shirts or something. Or make coffee for the rest of the guys.

Would pay to see that, but Toto is no longer together  . Members of Toto and Yes have formed a new group, they could open for Journey.

If it happens, it will be yet another reason to miss another J tour. I saw Kansas a few years ago, and they were atrocious. Vowed to never pay to see them again. And Styx doesn't move my bowels enough to overcome the Kansas ordeal.

I'm running out of time.

You complain about maybe having to miss a Journey tour because you don't like the bands they might be touring with?

Just not what I chose to spend my money on. It would be a disappointing lineup more than anything. I don't expect or care if anyone doesn't understand or agree.

If the ticket prices are close to what they charged with Heart and Cheap Trick, I could see people skipping the show if they didn't care for two of the three acts, especially if they've already seen Journey before. I think Stadium shows would be a different story though. On the Frontiers tour, they had four opening acts when I saw them at JFK but I knew Journey's show was going to be worth what ever I had to sit through. Lucky for me all the openers were good acts.

Bryan Adams

The Tubes

Sammy Hagar

John Cougar

A funny thing is when I saw Journey as an opening act for the Rolling Stones in 1981, I thought they, Foreigner and George Thorogood blew the headliners off the stage. If I could have left after those first three acts, I would have. Unfortunately, being unable to drive, I needed to sit through the whole show to get a ride home. I saw Journey again six months later at the Spectrum but this time they were the headliner and it was fantastic.

I saw Kansas last summer and it was great. It was just them and the place was packed. It would depend on the price. I really don't want to see Journey and Styx anymore.

Yeah, I think that a Journey/Foreigner tour would be very appealing. Im surprised that they havent toured together since the late 90s. No I havent picked up the cd yet, but I was blown away at the new singers voice, and he sings the songs very well. His voice is very lou gramm-like. Saw their concert on vh1 classic.

personally, I'd be more interested in complaining because it means Journey gets a GH-only set, and about 80-90 minutes onstage. Been there, done that. Unless some curveball is thrown with the setlist, this doesn't sound appealing to me.

this will not be a great package. Styx has toured to death and need a break. Kansas, well they aint what they used to be. But unfortunately with arnie boy Journey has to do these packages with other nostalgia acts, play these wimpy fair pavilions and maybe some ampitheatres. Bon Jovi are playing major arenas, U2.....
