They got fat, dumb, and LAZY having just won a unbelievable WAR with Michigan. Troy Smith gained 10 pounds and frankly got a bit too cocky. In retrospect, it was a BIG mistake on OSU's part to not prepare and come ready to play that night. Once Ginn went down on that fluke TD celebration, it was all over. A very BAD night for us Buckeye fans. IF they ever get to play again (realize OSU and Florida have played exactly ONCE)...it will be a different story beleive me. That loss has "haunted" Ohio State and has given them and their reputation a "black eye" beyond what any of us fans could have imagined! However...that night is what it was...no excuses. The "better" team that night one plain and simple.
The LSU debacle was interesting in that Ohio State wasn't even expected to be in the Championship game as it was truly a "rebuilding" year! Somehow, they scraped and clawed (and lucked) their way into that championship game. Anyway, if you go back and look at that game and the stats...it was alot more even than most people seem to want to remember. Sure, LSU's D-line dominated but, the Buckeyes were up by 10 or so early in that game and had a fair amount of success. OSU just made too many STUPID personal foul penalties that sunk their chances that night...really bad plays that gave away any momentum they had. Really dissappointing. But, I contend that they were NOT dominated the way that Florida did the year prior...not even close!
People hate it but, Ohio State is an ELITE team and has been as good as ANYONE over the course of the last 50 years! That's a long run! Watch out next year too...they return alot of players and could be pretty solid.
GO BUCKS beat them DUCKS!!!
I also think the Big 10 for not having a championship game hurts in the long run...as you dont get that EXTRA week of FULL PRACTICE that the other teams do... and that ADDS UP BIG TIME this time of year... the conditioning and GAME readiness is KEY and #1 for championship bowl games... 6 weeks off kills any momentuem going into a bowl game with that much riding on it!!
