Miss Nordegren, a 29-year-old former Swedish model, is reportedly living in a house nearby as her husband and his representatives work to persuade her to return home.

Little has been heard from her since the scandal over her husband’s private life broke two weeks ago except rumours – hotly denied by her husband – that she had hit him and his car with one of his golf clubs after learning of his infidelity.

Lindsay Davenport, the former tennis champion and a friend, told the US TV show Entertainment Tonight in an interview today that she had talked with Miss Nordegren in recent days.

Davenport said Miss Nordegren’s priority was her two young children by Woods. “Nobody wants to go through divorce, especially when there’s young children involved,” she said.

The state attorney’s office rejected the trooper’s request for an investigative subpoena for Woods’ blood test results due to “insufficient information provided”. Police have not pressed charges over the incident.

The trooper said a witness who had pulled Woods out of the vehicle had told him that the golfer had been drinking earlier in the day.
