Funny...I had that same thought when reading the name of that band. Can't say that I've ever heard of them. Moe, Larry, and Curly are another story.

Good for Genesis and the Stooges but...no KISS? What a fucking joke!!! Cause yeah, ABBA and Jimmy Cliff have given more to rock and roll that Kiss! Jann Weiner and Dave Marsh strike again. This is absolute BULLSHIT!

ABBA gets in for selling 300+ million albums. Rock, Pop or Soul, that number is huge, regardless.

I'm pretty sure that Billy Idol was about as Punk as I ever got and my son and I argued when he told me that Billy Idol is not punk. We agreed that his 80's stuff was more pop like... that he most likely sold out a little...

Perhaps you can make the argument, but do they deserve to be there BEFORE artists like:
KISS
Grand Funk
Rush
Yes
JOURNEY
Alice Cooper
etc...

KISS and Journey might be the only 2 I would consider in ABBA's league. ABBA was/is a worldwide selling machine and you put Alice Cooper up there??? Alice from fucking The Brady Bunch is more relevant than Alice Cooper.

They are one of the top selling bands in history. The bands you mention don't come close to that.

True, but it's not the "Rock and Roll Hall of Bands that sell alot of records". It supposed to be about music, and what each group has done to inspire and influence the art. And maybe these guys don't come close to ABBA's worldwide figures, but neither do Genesis or the Stogges. And KISS and Joruney have sold a shit ton of records!
Plus, ABBA is a fine pop band, but they're about as rock and roll as Grandmaster Flash and Madonna, and THEY ain't in the...oh wait...uhh...never mind.

#1 - 2 out of 5. Genesis and The Hollies are two incredible bands that made indelible marks on music in their time. You melodic rockers need to expand your horizons and listen to shit that's not 80s and synthesized sometimes. This ain't just directed at you Drew, but damn, there's just a lot of general disrespect for 60s and 70s bands in this community.

#2 - Who the fuck is Jimmy Cliff?

#3 - Genesis's induction is very encouraging - they are the first prog band to get inducted. This should open the floodgates for Rush, Yes, ELP, Kansas, and the like.

 Well, at least technically they are a "band" and they play instruments. They composed their own music. I'd say they have WAY more of a right to be there than Madonna :P

LOL

No worries here. The Hollies are amazing and a hugely influential act in the history of POP music. Not much dirty rnr though :)

And Jimmy Cliff was a reggae pioneer.

I'm all about musical history...love it...but this is no longer the RNR HOF.

Definitely.

From Wikipedia:
"ABBA remains a fixture of radio playlists and is one of the world's best-selling bands, having sold nearly 370 million records worldwide, making them the second best-selling band in history and the second best-selling pop artists in history. They still sell two to four million records a year"
