How long will Journey be on HIATUS?

Unless his contract prohibits it, I would think Pineda's management would want to get a solo album out there into the Filipino markets by next year. Without a product to sell, all these appearances on TV are just time fillers for him. That market thrives on young stars. Despite cutting his hair short, dressing him in hip clothes and pairing him with singers 20 years his junior, there is no hiding the fact that Arnel is really the oldest NEW celebrity on a lot of these programs. When he's done with Journey, it will be interesting to see how many of these shows will remember who he is.

Arnel is right on penny pinching with his money, there's no guarantee which way his career will turn once the good ship Journey ends its voyage.

Journey needs AP to be successful, period.

AP's now a star by himself in Asia... and he doesn't need Journey to do well there.

With the way the economy is going Journey will need to tour Asia exclusively for the next 5 years to make any money.... which would only blow AP up even more and ironically create a whole new "riding on the singers coattails" scenario for Journey... and most likely a new slew of "Journey isn't just the singer" arguments...

AP's star rising will give him power in the band... and set the stage for AP to assert more control to protect his voice.

Will history repeat itself?

1. He will not gain more power

2. Disagree wholeheartedly about his not needing Journey aspect in Asia. Yes, he's more known, but he will be just another flash in the pan when his time with Journey is up and his connection to American fame is done. What do you think he's gonna do? Run around singing to MIDI backing tracks for 15 years after Journey hangs it up in another few years here?

I hate that shit, it's like the rest of the band is non-existent. Who wants to hear a synthesizer emulating Neal? It's the same thing you hear when someone is singing Karaoke in a night club.

And that's the magic that doesn't have to be gone. They all can still write and produce...probably until they past completely gray.

We all go see TSO in the fall. Why can't we go see Journey-West or Journey-East, or a standing show in Las Vegas? Just put out great studio albums and do an occasional show...with whoever, wherever.

Yes, there will always be the classic lineup, and several flavours that each of us like better than another. But I do believe that 'Journey' can live and evolve as long as the marketing is right and the public hungry.

This is the thinking behind the latin group Menudo.

So how's that any different than the way it is?!?! *wink*

Maybe on second thought Assoff said, hey, let's not go ahead and desecrate the Journey catalog any further. When you guys can come up with a good album that stands on it's own, I'll let ya tour again. LOL...psych! I'm sure he'd never say anything like that, unless he was a loon.

Meanwhile, Arnel has cut his hair even shorter in his bid to appeal to the afternoon variety show crowd back at home. Playing a chameleon again. Are we ever going to see the real Arnel? I think he's fighting a losing battle. The Filipino public didn't care about him before he joined Journey in they won't care about him after he's left. What a waste of Energy trying to sell himself to a market that really has no long term interest in him. All that running around trying to please so many different people. Dedicate yourself to Journey and save those paychecks my little brown brother. Then when you're done with Neal and the boys, you'll be in a position t tell the Filipino Entertainment industry to fuck off, you don't need them anyway.

WTH? He has always wanted to cut his hair just b/c he likes it short. He has said that in Shoutbox for a long time. He hates the time it takes to wash and style his long hair. He's doing it while off tour. Most like it long, but he doesn't care. " Playing a chameleon again?" Are you kidding me? Reading something into just him cutting his hair. Talk about turning nothing into something.

"Are we ever going to see the real Arnel" B/c he cuts his hair? I guess Perry perming his hair meant something, and I guess in his late forties growing his hair to his waist meant something? Maybe just he liked changing his hair.

Jana be serious, look at him in those variety clips. He's trying (or his handlers are trying) to build him into some kind of you trendy artist For the afternoon TV crowds. It's a 180 degree turn from his rock singer persona. You know they lipsync on a lot of those shows right? It just seems pretty funky for a supposed big time Rock Star to be lipsyncng on afternoon variety shows with teen age singers that are young enough to be his kids.

I'm lost. He hasn't lip synched.

His handlers didn't tell him to cut his hair. In fact, last season he said he had to keep his hair long b/c Journey wanted it b/c he looks too young. He wanted to cut it b/c it takes an hour to style and wash. He cut his hair. Big deal. Perry permed his hair in his late thirties. At 48 grew his hair to his waist. Big deal. They pair him up with a lot of people his age, too, in singing on those shows.

My wife is Filipino and when her friends were watching some of these performances they were asking if Journey got rid of him because they couldn't understand why he would be on these shows if he's getting big bucks by Journey. And why does he always have to sing with Charice, it's like those two are lepers because they succeeded in the states despite being nobody's at home and a lot of Filipino stars silently resent them and don't want them to get more screen time than necessary.

How do you know he hasn't lipsynced? I've watched those shows live on TFC and some of the performances are real hard to tell. The other performers lipsync, why would he be treated any differently. Not all the time but on occasion. Even Wech acknowledged this might be the case with him.

Accusations. It's standard industry procedure there. I'm just saying I don't care for him doing those shows which are known to operate that way. Am I not allowed to question it? In no way have I said he has a voice problem or anything. My whole spiel is about him being on these kooky shows which I think is beneath him, considering he's a singer for Journey.

Then again I'm arguing with people that watch Oprah so I'm obviously going to lose this battle.

I don't care for the goofy shows either, but it's different over there, I guess.

BTW, I only watched Oprah like three times last season. I don't watch her, not that there's anything wrong with that.  Do something really productive. Go rate which album was better, TBF or Arrival.
