Steve's voice is like a Cello.....

Hey, all....

I've always loved and admired how Steve can hold the Vibrato on the TONE ITSELF; NOT go sharp.....which is the ultimate in vocal control.

My apologies for not finding a better example... ....but, this is the example that started it all.

The nuance of Perry's skill is what makes him orders of magnitude better than most singers... and its what most lay people overlook, because it IS so subtle... and because he made it look so effortless and natural. Perry would hold off or use his vibrato, the same way he would any other aspect of his voice... always to embellish and enhance the lyric and/or vocal melody.

I still think this is what sets Perry apart from just about every other singer compared to him... its the way his vibrato is not just on "automatic" like other singers is..

AP is a good example here, he has beautiful voice with a very strong vibrato... and nowhere near the control, when compared to Perry.

Steve learned this control. Some can learn it and unfortunately some never will. AP is 42 years old and if he could master this he could be far beyond where he is now. I think it's a bit late for him.

Good points... I agree that his voice is very reminiscent of a string instrument--but I think it's more of a viola myself. A little higher pitched, y'see. (Me? A music nerd? Naaaah....)
