Do you hate it when people brag on Facebook?

Do you follow the Facebook posts of people who brag throughout the day?

Hell no, they can brag to someone who cares to hear it.

Exactly Lula. I mean I have LOTS of people who have invited me to be their "facebook friend" who I am sure could care less about my pictures, and status's and whatever else I put on there. They probably invited me more out of nosiness than really caring about what I am up to, but I still accepted them, because I did know them at one time. The stuff I post isn't for them. It's for the people I am closer to, who also read there, and do have an interest in what I'm saying and doing. People I cant' talk to everyday, but it takes only a second to say something there they can all read. And if they don't care either, then who cares. It's just a fun place to be able to share is all. When it becomes not fun is when it's time to leave maybe. :)

I very much agree Miss, "I've got a head full of naturally thick, beautiful hair that I rock everyday!"

At first I refused to be part of FB, my friends begged me for about a year. Now I find FB to be both creative and personal. It is challenging, you have to be careful whom you interact with and what you put out, but it is what it is, a place to socially connect; a place to creatively connect; a place to pontificate, vent and see how others live. I read what others are going through or find that we have some things in common, I rather dig that. On another note, I thoroughly enjoy interacting with some of the noted people on FB where I would normally never be able to contact them. Oh man, some of them are so much fun! And I'm just a fan for heaven's sake!

People don't have to like that I show very personal vids and pix of my mom which helps me cope. But, when people respond with their own stories it makes me feel a little better. As far as bragging...I think it's cool, hell, if you are proud of your family or your children or your car or the food you ate go for it. And I agree that once FB becomes "not fun" you can choose not to be on it. :D

I have a few friends on Facebook who are self-employed like I am. Two of them regularly use FB to advertise their services, and all day long they post things like, "I have a client coming at 4:00pm and I am getting the studio ready.... blah, blah blah...". I got tired of reading their self-promotion so I turned their feed off. I own a business too, but I am not going to get on this forum and promote it, and I don't see why people should do so on FB either.

If someone wants to brag about their new Corvette convertible, that's another story - I would be happy to hear about stuff like that. But a lot of people post their daily routine as if they think people want to follow their every move as if they were a sought-after celebrity or something. I think that is egotistical and I'd rather not hear about it... but I'm not going to quit FB just because of a few braggarts. I just turn off their feed (hover over their post and the word "remove" will show up on the right - click it to remove their feed from displaying on your page).

Yea, dear you know that's your right, I do it. I see FB as both some brag and then some of us just like interacting, boring or not. But, I am analytical by nature and older now. Back in the day the only way I could learn about how others live would be to read it in newspapers or on the news. This way I can learn about them up close and personal. But, I get your point Voyager. :D

My statuses are all either sarcastic Cleveland sports commentary or political jabs, I rarely ever update "going downtown for the game!/to the bar!" or shit like that unless I'm tellin ppl to ring me up if they are down there. Even then, very rare. People say they get good laughs out of my sports/political statuses, so I'll continue I guess. It's sorta cathartic.

Facebook & MySpace are fun. Nobody forces you to look at their page, so people can brag all they want - if you're not interested just don't read it...It's Twitter that I find stupid & annoying.

No. Only 3 of the 4 really good friends I hung with in HS are on my FB (the 4th isn't because she's still grudging that some guy she liked senior year kissed me... fk her. I'm not friending her. ) And that's all that needs to happen. They are 3 really nice people and that's what I have use for. Nice people. The rest of them - forget it. I wasn't close with them then, they don't need to be up in my bidness now.

To be fair, we all do this from time to time... I'm not always the best entertainer, I'm sure. But I'm talking about people who ONLY post stuff like that.

I have one friend who never posts anything even remotely interesting. It's always about having a headache or making coffee or how so and so it annoying her... or something. I accept these blurbs once in a while, but I can't think of one single time she ever posted something that wasn't about baking cookies or waiting on coffee to brew. I have another friend who posts in two categories... what music they're playing or the dreaded "please pay attention to me and ask me what's wrong". They'll write... "*sigh* or "oh just forget it!" or something like that and wait for people to go "what's wrong?" Dude, clearly you wish to express something, so just say it!

Oh I couldn't agree more!!

A great little article on all the many different types of obnoxious Facebook users. That one would qualify as "The Sympathy-Baiter."

Facebook is trying to go the Twitter route with their new "privacy" updates. Pushing people to share more than before. Actually forcing them to by removing some key privacy settings.

So true  . Although I have to admit I have approved some who have "friended" me, because I was curious as to what in the world they want to talk to me for now when back then they were too good for that, since I was always one of the neutral quiet ones, lol. It can be a little fun sometimes to see how some of the "popular" ones turned out!

I LOVE Cyndy and Lula's thoughts too, agree 100%. FB says right there it's for sharing with the people in your life, so what gives? I don't see it as any different an avenue for people displaying their "issues" than, oh let's see, message boards perhaps? :P

Awhile back, I got a friend request from my ex-sister-in-law. I was never close to her when we were related (never had much use for her - she was a little too childish and selfish for me to even want to try to handle)... I never heard a word from her after her brother and I split... then randomly 3 years later she clicks my name on facebook (through a common friend, probably) and wants to be friendly?

After a few days of letting the request sit there, I decided I wasn't going to be nasty and just ignore her (even though I don't really like her) so I accepted the request, wonder what she would possibly want to say to me at this point.

Nothing. She said nothing. She saw that I'd become "facebook friends" with one or two other ex-in-laws and since my profile is private, she can't see what I'm up to (which is nothing!). She figured I'd accept the request (since I'd accepted a couple others in her family) and she could be nosy. No, I'm not being paranoid - I've known her for 11 years... that's exactly how she is. So she said nothing, no comments, no messages... no "hey, how's it going?" ... so... buh bye! *delete*

I mean why even bother friending someone if you aren't going to say anything, ever? JUST to be nosy? Get a life.

LOL- Yep, I can see where people have done that most likely out of pure curiosity, because one of those from high school I was talking about did that, and although she does talk to me here and there (we're both married to cops, so she mentions that a lot if we talk, LOL), I really don't think otherwise she would have "friended" me if my profile weren't completely private either

Exactly! Most forums are just as bad as all these other social crap networks. Starting threads just to start threads, posting pics, making sigs & avatars, displaying numbers of posts & friends...isn't it all just another form of 'hey look at me' syndrome? There was comment somehwere not too long ago that remarked, When did we all start thinking that everyone cares about everything that we do all day, or everything we say is important? Not a precise quote, but the meaning is there.

I dunno. Maybe it's not all bad, but it sure seems like an insecurity of sorts.
