I Dreamed a Dream about to hit 3X Platinum

2,982,000 copies in America so far (it's one disc only so these are actual individual sales). Susan Boyle is the first artist in the Billboard chart history to enter at No. 1 with a debut album and spend five consecutive weeks there.

Even if she never releases anything again, this is the equivalent of some other well known artists entire careers, especially when you add in her worldwide sales.

Like Alicia Keys the week before, Mary J. Blige, an artist who is used to debuting at number one has to settle for second place this week.

Over all, Year to date album sales are 374.6 million, down 13% compared to the same total at this point last year (428.4 million), which makes it even more amazing that Boyle's album continues to sell at such a huge pace, considering the ever growing trend of people purchasing individual tracks in lieu of full albums.

3,000,000<2,982,000> = 18,000 more to hit 3x platinum....Just in the US !!

1,000,000 + 1,000, 000 + 1,000, 000 = 3,000,000
Forget the Revelation numbers for a moment...that's what's confusing you!!

I don't either. I was at the store last week, and I noticed the whole new release/best seller aisle was picked totally bare, except for the spots that held this CD - totally full. Couldn't have been because it was restocked because nothing else had been restocked. Who is buying this?

Only THREE other albums have averaged selling over 500,000 copies their first five weeks of release, The Beatles (six weeks), Garth Brooks and the Backstreet Boys ( five weeks each). Boyle is really in territory that no one envisioned, even with all the hoopla surrounding her from X-Factor. With the steady decline of full album sales, this could be one of the last great runs ever for a complete CD, let alone a debut album.

I know. I don't get it.
Yeah she has a good voice but so do alot of singers.

Is it because of all the hype over that first TV performance? If it is, then ... just wow. The big glowing box tells you this is the most amazing thing ever, so you just buy right into it?

I mean, I thought she was a good singer, yeah... but I wasn't enthralled enough to run out and purchase it. In fact, I kinda forgot about her until I saw the disc in the store.

I really think this is predominantly one segment of the population. I don't know anyone personally who has bought the album. I think this could be older consumers who were intrigued by her story and enjoy her singing style which seems to harken back to the time of big bands and huge stage productions. One of the most popular syndicated shows of all time Was the Lawrence Welk Show, which is still going strong on PBS. There is a select audience out there who are very frugal with their money but who occasionally loosen up on their purse stings as is the case here.

I think it's great what is happening here.

Because she was on a national hit television show and also had a ton of press and it drove people to Youtube to see even more. Then there were nuttyass headlines and then another performance on tv here and Britain.

With mass exposure, people can sell records.

If David Hasselhoff can sell albums, ANYONE can.
So can this gal.

The difference is, she CAN sing.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I think the Wild Horses debut as the first single really created buzz about this, too. Her performance on that show the first time was stunning with Wild Horses.

World wide figures, 5,713,813 sold (8 million shipped). Only around 40,000 of the U.S. sales are through Itunes while the majority are actual physical CD sales, which is definitely going against the trend of the last few years.

SuBo is a worldwide rockstar, I LOVE IT.

From the Mirror.co.UK

Susan Boyle gets marriage proposal as Japan goes SuBo crazy By Danielle Gusmaroli 30/12/2009

Japan went SuBo barmy yesterday as Susan Boyle touched down in Toyko.

Thousands of screaming fans greeted her plane with the hysteria reaching a peak when two delirious admirers begged her to MARRY them.

SuBO jetted out to Japan to film an appearance on the country’s biggest entertainment show, to be aired on New Year’s Eve

Boyle smiled broadly as she greeted a mob of photographers at the airport, but declined a request for an impromptu song, saying her fans would have to wait for the TV show

But the pleas fell on deaf ears as SuBo smiled and waved while security teams ushered her through Narita airport on her first-ever visit to the country.

Akiyama Hanako, 56, who had waited seven hours to see Susan, likened her arrival to the pandemonium caused by the Beatles’ visit in 1966.

He said: “There is so much affection for Susan. She is an idol to us. Everyone wants to meet her.

“I was near the front but got pushed aside when she appeared. One gentleman kept on saying ‘Susan, kekkon [jam] kudasai!’ He was asking her to marry him over and over again. We have not seen scenes like this since the Beatles.”
Moments later another fan was seen bending down on his knees while holding a rose and proclaiming his undying love. He also asked for her hand in marriage.

SuBo will appear on the country’s biggest New Year’s Eve show, Kohaku Uta Gassen, singing a traditional Japanese song.

She is also set to sing her trademark I Dreamed a Dream, the title track to her No 1 debut album.

She is the first international singer in years to be invited by the NHK channel to perform on the show, which is watched by up to 40 million people.

News of her arrival dominated morning television and prompted crowds to stake out her hotel in the bustling Tokyo district of Shinjuku.

A source close to the singer said: “She loves travel and the fame that Britain’s Got Talent has awarded her. Susan really is living out her dream.”

While having the Japanese market on board is nice, The fact that she is a citizen of the Empire is really helping as the majority of her overseas sales are from Common Wealth nations.

I wonder what she makes off of each album. I'm sure her contract wasn't great, but with that many sold she's a millionaire.

She's got a £ five million ($7 million+) contract with Simon for two albums. And then there are endorsements and other things and I would assume some type of royalties. She'll be fine.
