What a great song. I don't think I have heard such a punchy bass sound in a 60's song. Someone should cover this and rock it up a bit. it has all the ingredients for a great aor song.

I've been in love with The Grass Roots (well, Rob Grill, specifically  ) since I was, like, 4. I finally got to see him live about 8 years ago, he still sounded great - even though he did the whole show on crutches due to a double hip replacement! You must check out some of their other tunes Duncan - Wait a Million Years is my favorite.

I know Tempation Eyes - did someone else have a hit with that song?

I just tried to buy Midnight Confessions on I-Tunes, but you can only get a re-recorded version (which isn't as good) unless you want to buy the whole of the Jackie O soundtrack, which I don't.

I've never heard anyone else do Temptation Eyes. I-Tunes (Canada) has at least 5 or 6 greatest hits compilations - all very cheap too! (I have all my Grass Roots stuff on vinyl  and CD - I'm old!)

You're right - I just listened to that re-record - it sucks!

It is - I've been on an Alias/Sheriff binge this weekend for some reason (until someone just mentioned the Grass Roots - now that's in the player!) This is a cool, lesser-known Grass Roots song, kind of ruined by the rest of the vid but a very 'groovy' song:

The Grass Roots plays at Epcot here in Orlando, and my brother saw them when he and his family happened to be there and said only fifty people were standing around. But he said the lead singer was in really good shape, still nice-looking, and still sounded good. Rob Grill lives in a beautiful little town of Mt. Dora, just 40 minutes outside of Orlando, and was arrested on doctor shopping for Ocycontin and vicodin in 2007, had many, many overlapping prescriptions. He said it was b/c of his many hip replacement surgeries, and he went into rehab in 2008.

Here's another 70s band that played at Epcot that I happened to see one year while out at the park that the lead singer isn't holding up as good physically  , but his voice sounds good - The Turtles:

Another great song. It's sad when you look back at an old film of a the band, but i guess we all get old. I did notice that in this 60's clip the guitarist is wearing the worst syrup I have ever seen.

Funny - the time I mentioned I saw the Grass Roots, it was some sort of 60's concert, and the Turtles were also on the bill. I have a tie-dyed t-shirt from that show that I got autographed by the band. They were actually the best ones on the bill that night - the 3rd band was Herman's Hermits and we didn't stay for them - never been a fan of their songs (plus the crowd was a little too 'senior' and sedate for us  - I'm surprised they all stayed up that late)

Sorry :) - for me it was actually kind of fun to watch the silver-hairs bouncing in their chairs along to the beat of the music. My husband thought it was weird - but I grew up on that music with 8 older siblings in the house. Not too long from now I'll probably be bouncing in my chair at concerts too  .

This is a genuine haven't heard that song in ages, in fact 28 years. Back in 1982 I went to the Reading Festival and there was this band playing, quite low down the bill, called Praying Mantis. If memory serves me correctly they had just got a new singer, a Canadian called Bernie Shaw (now with Uriah Heep). Anyways, I remember them playing this new song called Enough is Enough. At the time I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever heard. Not longer after Bernie Shaw left the band as far as I was aware the track was never released.

In the weeks after the festival Tommy Vance on the Friday Rock Show played various bands sets from the festival and I was primed and ready with my tape recorder when Praying Mantis' set was aired. After repeated playing the tape got chewed and I never heard the song again until around 1986 when Bernie Shaw formed a band, with Clive Burr from Iron Maiden, called Stratus, and low and behold the track appeared on that album, but it wasn't as good as I remembered the Praying mantis version.

Tonight, I did a google search for Praying Mantis - Enough is Enough and bugger me I found it. Sounds awfully dated, but I now have it on repeat.

Talk of The Grass Roots and Rob Grill made me go looking for his solo album, which I knew I had but hadn't listened to forever. Here's a great song from that album, recorded with some of Fleetwood Mac (that is NOT Stevie singing with him). Song does sort of sound Fleetwood Mac-ish to me. Rob definitely had one of those distinctive voices I'd recognize in a minute - but then I'm a fan :) .

Here are a few tunes with a New Years theme.

1999 - Prince

Happy New Year - ABBA

And for all you old hippies and Dead heads out there, New Years Eve 1985 with the Dead. Commentary by Fr. Guido Sarducci and a really f---ed up Ken Kesey. ( Now you know why Dead heads were always so stoned.)

Midnight Hour - Grateful Dead

Wow, I love that song. Really great catchy beat. Not a very good recording above, but here's another one I found that's clearer and crisper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlP93GiUqEw

How is this whole solo CD? I can get it used on amazon. It's out of print new. I'm addicted to this song. I see where he did record the album with some of Fleetwood Mac members. It does have that vibe, at least this song does. I don't know about the rest.

He said it was b/c of his many hip replacement surgeries, and he went into rehab in 2008.

Isn't it great? Just listened through the whole album today (it's like brand new - I must not have played it much). A couple of Grass Roots sounding songs (one is actually a slower version of a Grass Roots Song I could do without) , but most of it rocks harder and is almost bluesy. I love it, planning to transfer it to CD with my magic machine  so if you can't find it let me know.

It does have a bluesy feel to it. What I found was a CD on Amazon with Powers of the Night (Grassroots) and Uprooted (Rob Grill solo) together on one CD, and it is a brand new sealed import CD limited edition for like 18.00 plus shipping. They have a few of those. The rest are used. I only know a few Grassroots hits that I hear on the radio. Is Powers of the Night good?

Couldn't tell you - I only have their earlier stuff and Rob's solo. Looking at the track listing I don't know if I've ever heard any of those songs (probably have, just don't recognize the titles). I did find this review:

. . . I may have to check this out myself.
