Plenty of Revelation Discs, not to many Foreigner discs and about three Manila DVDs. They got them in a weird location and I almost didn't see them. Well since Journey's Greatest Hits is back in the Hot 200 chart, I thought I would check on those.

Low and Behold, all of them have a blue sticker on them but not with song titles listed. Instead it reads:

Includes the original master recordings, performed by the original members

Steve Perry - Vocals
Neal Schon - Guitars
Jonathan Cain - keyboards
Ross Valory - Bass
Steve Smith - Drums

Gregg Rolie - Keyboards
Aynsley Dunbar - Drums

I think that is some really creative marketing by Sony. The disc was 9 dollars and there were only three left. I don't know if that little sticker helped in sales but seeing as they did get back on the charts at #159, I thought it was rather clever for Sony to differentiate between the two line ups. Unfortunately,I didn't see any older albums . I was wondering if they'll get the sticker too. Sort of a Genuine Journey certification sticker I'd guess you could call it.

Okay, so now, do we start going "Well, the only reason it sold was because it was 9.00" like everybody did with Revelation? ;)

I wouldnt pay that much for arnels version of Journey. Not anymore.

Nine dollars for 1 disc vs 12 dollars for three discs (four dollars a disc). Hmmm.

Well, since this is a pure fantasy anyway, I guess it won't matter. Besides, what did I say that was nasty? I just said he won't sing. Unless you have some inside info. I'm not be nasty, I'm just stating the facts. You know I love SP, but its never gonna happen, I just stopped believing.

Journey's Greatest Hits still hanging around this week, at #189 on the Hot 200 Chart.

As there are a ton of classic rock albums re-entries onto the chart right now, I'm going theorize that a Holiday gift buying spree has caused these resurgences on the charts and that CDs are benefiting from people not having the extra cash to buy more expensive gifts.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

The overhead off the top is too much for such an undertaking in Europe and U.S.

With 18 months off, we'll see if they go back to singing in tune in 2011. Arnel has been singing in tune on Philippine TV nearly every day. He hasn't stopped since the tour ended.

Arnel, like any singer, NEEDS to sing every day. Otherwise, the voice kind of "unlearns" what to do. 18 months off (not to mention 13 years), without singing at all is foolish for any singer (unless there's a medical issue and the vocal chords need to recover). Just like any athlete (and that's what singers are, really), they NEED to keep their voice in shape and toned up. If the guy was off for 18 months and walked onto a stage, he'd probably get through a few shows, but eventually, that time off would catch up to him. His recovery between shows would be harder. Doesn't mean he needs to sing 3 hours a day, but he should be singing daily at least a bit.

Very cool! I have often wondered what the worldwide sales figures are for their greatest hits album. I have only been able to find the U.S. sales of 15 million.

when you can sing like Roy Orbison could, you could come out dressed like the Cookie Monster and people would pay to see you. From a pure technical standpoint of singing, he had a gift that VERY few singers have (or had). Most people learn to sing. Others were born with it. Roy was part of the 2nd group--and it's a very exclusive club.

They just were showing on local news the new Broadway Season, announcing the shows here. And the first thing they showed was some group or show singing Don't Stop Believing.

I was reading from neilsen soundscan today that Journey's greatest hits sold 507,465 copies in 2008 and 375,336 copies in 2009 bringing their sales from 08-09 around 872,801 copies sold. These numbers are much lower than RIAA numbers (which include all retailers, outlets, chain stores etc.) so im guessing their greatest hits is due to be certified 16xp multiplatinum anyday now.

Here are so more soundscan numbers:

Revelation: 664,000+ sold as of Oct. 09 (I imagine their sales of revelation are now 700,000+)
GH Live: 747,000 sold as of 06
Essential: 892,000 sold as of 09

Journey slips to #103 this week.

On a side note, Dark Side Of The Moon is at #137. Nothing big about that, until you realize they have been on the chart for
748 weeks!

Heard on the radio that it's climb was due to a 600% increase in sales in 1 week.
