why do a lot of people knock "Generations?" I feel like I've discovered another freakin' Journey gem in "Knowing That You Love Me." I think it's absolutely gorgeous. Neal's guitar is stunning on this tune (except Neal darling could you please dial back the doodle-doodle-doodle's of notes near the end, lol?). I love SA's voice on this song. I even let myself imagine SP singing this tune something I usually don't do--I know I'm nobody but to me this is like an SP-quality knockout song even though I love SA's emotion on it... I've always liked "Gone Crazy" and "Faith In The Heartland" is on here, too. This song just popped up today on my IPod while I was doing some chores and it kind of took my breath away...

It's embarrassing to admit that I've only given a really thorough listen to only 3 songs on this album. I am going to give an earnest listen to all of it all day tomorrow.

DAMN, you are fast. I just posted this, went to take a look at the top forum, saw the "worst album" thread and thought oh no Generations is going to be on this list. Bingo, 2 posts down, lol. Sorry Dan it does not blow rhino cock.

I really liked the cd. Showed the band was willing to try to be different from what they had done in the past. Production was better than RED 13, but not has good as Arrival. SOngs were good too. Seems a lot of people were upset by all the different singers, and not enough songs in the typical Journey mode.

I think there are a couple gems on that album, but with all the guys doing vocals, it wasn't a typical Journey album. And, some a couple of the song titles... I mean, Butterfly (She Flies Alone). After listening to it a lot of times, and knowing it is an Augeri penned song, it isn't as horrible as I used to think it was. I think when everyone sees Butterfly they are like, "Wow, what a gay sounding title." Like Arnel, and it may just be the pussified production on Revelation, but I will take Augeri's FITH anyday over the other version. I like the rawer production than the more polished Revelation production.

Not a ballad guy at all, but as impartial observer KTYLM is pure class. What a song, with a tinge of a tiny bit of blues.

One of the top 3 lead vocals Augeri ever laid down as well (along w/ FITH and TPIYH).

When I went to the first of the three Generations shows I attended, I heard FITH, Out of Harm's Way, and maybe Place In Your Heart and I couldn't wait to listen to the album. Then I got home and popped it in the next morning and I couldn't believe it. It sounded like it had been produced in a toilet! I had friends in high school doing home recording who were making far better sounding songs all by themselves in their basement. I could never quite get past that on Generations.

With that said, there are certainly a few great songs on there: Faith In the Heartland, Place in Your Heart, Out of Harm's Way, Beyond the Clouds, and Never Too Late are all strong additions to the Journey catalogue. A Better Life gets an honorable mention, as well.

Matt did you ever fork out for the retail release on Sanctuary? It's at Best Buy, Walmart and FYE and is, I feel a decent sonic pickup over the concert version (which I also have).

I definitely did in that very hope. I have never A/B'd them, but I think it is indeed a bit better, but still no great shakes. I'm 99% sure that's the version I have ripped on my iTunes.

Best Augeri-era ballad, hands down. That song is absolutely great and should be revived by the band. Seriously great tune.

I also like Generations and don't mind Butterfly or the other one that people gripe about (which reminds me of The Beatles "I've Got a Feeling" a bit".

The only song on it I didn't 'get' was Ross's tune and I think there was a Jon Cain bonus track that I also didn't dig. The rest was fine. Not the best Journey album, but certainly not crap.
Neal's "In Self Defense" is also a favorite. Love that guitar riff.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

It's ONE song folks. ONE song does not an album make. If that were the case... well, I'd take Gone Crazy over Baby I'm a Leavin' You any day of the week.

I like the CD a lot. I like most of the songs on there. its very different from their standard stuff, more rock and different chord progressions and even different chord voicings. very guitar oriented. and i think its cool how everyone got to sing, especially gone crazy, which is one of my favorites

so to the OP, I dont get it either. the only things i have heard against it are
1. the recording quality is bad ( even though its better than the over-compressed Revelation, i prefer the raw sound),
2.people don't like the other guys singing, which one would think " ok, skip over those 3 songs", or listen to them so you can actually hear what the members of journey sound like, cuz you certainly cant tell from backing vocals!
3. people making empty claims like " it sucks" or "i dont like it", but no reasons why.

Are we talking abut the same song? I was talking about KTYLM. Do you mean Baby I'm a-leaving you? If so, What in the world was he thinking? WCTNGOF should have been there instead.

And I was probably a little harsh on KTYLM. It's a nice song to play in the background and beautiful vocals and Neal is really great. But the chorus You lift me up, seems unoriginal, like other songs I've heard. But I have to say Augeri is brilliant on the whole ending of the song, which makes it for me.
