The biggest advantage about the keytar is being able to MIDI it up to any synthesizer or module. Hell, you could even feed distortion pedals through it if you wanted and it would still sound ok.

But I agree. And as a keyboardist myself, I concur that we'd rather hide behind our collection of instruments than don one of those things.

I saw Howard Jones play Led Zep's Rock and Roll complete with the guitar solo back in the eighties with a keytar. He knocked it out of the park.
