you're just trying to work your own name in there. which is fine, but you'll have to perform.

This is not directed towards anyone. And I don't mean to be starting anything or mocking anyone. But what's the fascination with getting drunk? I need to state that I don't drink and I've never been drunk. But just looking from an outsider's perspective I don't get the fascination. There just seems to be so many negatives and not enough positives (if any) to be worth it.

I have no fascination. I RARELY do it, and if I do, it certainly isn't "planned" as in "I'm gonna go get wasted tonight!" Just kinda ... happens. (mayyyybe once a year I'll have way too much... 99% of the time I know when to stop and when I WANT to stop).

Honestly, I really don't get it either. Purposely setting out to fuck myself up... not so much an interest.

I called it drunken blackout weekend only because I've seen these people in action.

Don't knock it til you try it my man

It's a social thing, there's an element of bonding involved, especially when you get hammered with a group of friends and wake up the next morning piecing together the night and reliving the good times.

Yes, you can have fun without it and that's fine if you do. If a doctor told me I couldn't have a drink again for the rest of my life, I'd be fine with that. But, I do have fun when I do it, so I'll continue to partake when I can.

I was like you too, man (when I was 12). Seriously, alcohol isn't only about waking up with a butterfaced tequila waitress in Antalya, Turkey or waking up at the hospital a sunday morning, with blood on your face and a 800 $ taxi bill (though that is a part of it), but it's about just enjoying the momemt. Having fun with your friends. I've lost the count of how many times I've mutilated Don't Stop Believin' a late saturday night. :o

One of the greatest things in life is chilling on your sailboat on a hot summer day with a cooled bottle of grey goose la poire. :)

I'm not talking about socially drinking a few alcoholic beverages with your friends. Nothing wrong with that. I asked what the fascination was in wanting to get drunk. I'm talking about specifically going out of your way to get hammered. Some do it every weekend. When someone is sitting there the next day wondering how they got home, how cool is that? Coulda killed somebody driving home.

I don't think I could ever try it. To me, alcohol tastes like a bunch of chemicals. To me there would be no difference in tasting lighter fluid and whiskey, for example. Just don't like the stuff. (And no, I've never tasted lighter fluid) :D

And beer...that's some bitter shit. How you guys drink that stuff?

Clearly, it's something you're predisposed to not ever understand on account of your personality and view of the activity. I'm not trying to be a dick here, but there's no way for anyone who enjoys drinking to explain the "fun" of it with your views as set in stone as they seem to be.

I'm 23 years old, single, what the hell do you expect me to do on an average Friday night? Sure, plenty of Friday nights I'm tired from the week and wanna take it easy in front of the TV or play some guitar/XBox, but if I wanna socialize, the place it's happening the most is at the bar. It's also a blast to be somewhere with good live music, friends, and catchin a solid buzz or drunkenness. It's not something you'll ever understand if you don't try it. Not saying you have to, but that's just how it is.

Also, that's a far leap to assuming everyone who drinks drives drunk. I don't want to lose my career or raise my insurance sky high so I take a cab or get rides.

Well said son, well said.
Might I add, its like trying to explain to a virgin how good sex can be. In this case, trying to explain pleasures of sex to a fuckin priest !

No but seriously,,, we all drink for different reasons,,,, and I think most would agree that we could have fun without drinking,, but as long as you arent drinking every single day and youre not 100% addiected to drinking, then I dont see anything wrong with having 2-3 or 20 beers with friends once in a while.

Don't be so quick to judge, please. If you read what I said and then what you're saying, I'm sure you'll realize that you put words in my mouth and jumped to a few conclusions. I was 23 years old and single once too, dude. I was able to come up with plenty of things to do. And I wasn't considered weird or a nerd for omitting alcohol from the equation. I'm certainly not assuming all people that drink are alcoholics or get drunk all the time or drive drunk. Good for you not driving drunk.

I hestitated posing this question because I just knew I'd strike somebody's nerve.

I'm not judging at all. I certainly never meant to say there's nothing else to do. As I said, many nights I like to take it easy. Sometimes I nerd out and have a two buds over and we play Xbox all night long, sometimes we go out and get smashed, sometimes I sit on my ass and read a book by myself, sometimes it's in the middle and I'll have a few buds over to jam some tunes and have just a couple beers. It all depends.

I never implied that you were or are a nerd, but when I wanna socialize and meet girls or even just generally be around a large diverse group of people, I'm not gonna go out to the local bingo hall. That's all I meant by the "what do you expect me to do" comment.

If anything, your original post is the one that came off as judgmental and preachy and it certainly did at least contain a whiff of an inference that all people that drink are wild drunken driving degenerates ... 8)

Seriously, say what you will about non-drinkers or drinkers, but if you like to drink, and the target in question doesn't, there just isn't a chance in the world for a long relationship. Over time, one of them will get fed up with the other

I kinda dig still being close to my ex, even though we're technically broken up.

Now I can act like a stereotypical guy and not have to worry about repercussions.

Hence; me trying to solve the great caper of how to get some.

No, no no no no and NO and NO and NO!

BIG mistake dude. If she spreads 'em for ya now after not giving it up for a year while being in an "official" relationship, is it certainly a ploy to guilt you into dating her.
