Any New Info On Survivor Project?

Postby Slander » Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:35 am

Was wondering if anyone heard anything about the new project. I follow FS on both twitter and FB and I know they are still working on tracks, mixing, dubbing etc. I also recall a few months ago Frankie mentioning working with Walmart on something. Not sure what. It would be cool if the project could be release like foreigner, journey, loverboy. How great would it be to have a dvd too.

I have been getting email questioning me, and to be honest I have no idea either...I heard a pretty final track about 5 months ago, and was involved at the very beginning writing alot with FS and whatever else he needed help with at the time....but for the past 7 months or so I have no idea what is up or the status....I did see a "tweet" that 6 songs went out for mix and that's a good thing....I haven't really seen my old engineer and friend either since he started working with them as well...kind of a closed shop I guess...

I hope it is a great album and I wish them all the luck in the world....

Hi Joe,

Glad to see you on the board. I was wondering what you have been up to and how you are. Anything new with Mecca? I'm disappointed to hear that FS has not been in contact or updated you on the project.

No...not at all....The studio I was working in for the past two years is pretty well closed off now because he is working on the Survivor album full bore...bad news for me but great news for Survivor.....I have been finishing things at my home studio....and actually that is really going well....I have had alot of time to put my touch and really control the sound and vibe of my tunes....I was very happy that I was able to write a bunch in the beginning for the new Survivor album with FS and hook him up with my buddy and engineer Dr Bryan.....it has apparently been a good fit for both of them.....I cannot tell you guys how strong the new Mecca material is, but I refuse to release this bad boy until it is perfect, or at least until I think it is ;-)

Best of luck and health to ALL of you in this new year!!!!!

Hey folks!
Greetings from germany.
Do anyone know the label for the new album ?
I know he ist cool with Sony for the moment but will
they maybe release other projects beside a
Greatest Hits ? Reach was at Frontiers and they now
have a label in the U.S . Why he do not work again
with them ? On the Survivore Bullet Board Frankie just
told the new album will not be @ Frontiers.

Would be cool if at walmart, do a rerecording of the hits with Robin on vocals and a live dvd.

I, like Slander  , would like to see them do both, ie an all-new material disc and then rerecorded classics with new intstrumentation and vox.

Now that we can agree on! This thread got me thinking this morning about how amazing Vital Signs was as the debut of Jimi Jamison with Survivor. They had a lot to prove with that album and they pulled it off and then some. They're in a similar situation with this new album and I hope we see a similar rise to the occasion.

Vital Signs was an amazing album. I started playing it in my dorm room and my friends in college thought it sounded a lot like Journey. They were hooked! It is a classic album. I Can't Hold Back represents everything I love about Survivor. Great hooks, Great guitar, Great vocals! Man those hooks! I love how JP/FS would put together a song that you think is going one way and then takes you in a whole different direction. Anyway looking forward to the new project with Robin on vocals. I liked some of the stuff on Robin's Business As Usual. Did you hear any of that Jeremy?

With the Walmart thing I was talking about, was the rerecordings and live dvd WITH new songs. I would be intrested in hearing Robin and band do the older songs to fit Robin's style. Like Journey did on their newest release. Would the older songs sound better?, doubt it, but I like to collect things that are different, and Robin's vocals would be different on the songs. Not trying to redo the past here and say the other singers never sang on the songs.

I think Robin does some Survivor stuff quite well (TSIO (he's got it down pat his OWN way), Rockin' Into The Night, Broken Promises - sometimes I think he has a similar style to Mikey Thomas IMO. (That said, I'd prefer him not to touch EOTT, but that's just me).

My fav. tune on the Solo CD is Bad Times. Quasi reggae but A LOT of Fun! His vocal delivery a highlight for me.

I agree...I don't really need to hear McAuley on the other stuff...But I would buy it of course, to see....Now if they had Bickler remake some of the JJ stuff, I'd would wait in line for a top quality version of that!

I love his work on some of the Vital Signs stuff and would love to hear all of that done professionally...

Would love to hear anything off PREMONITION. I'm surprised they never include Runway Lights. This is a very moving song that people can relate to.

I always thought LIGHT OF A THOUSAND SMILES would be a great way to kick off a concert. Think of the intro.............
