My dog just went running out of the house yelping when I played this song...really!
Was it a contest with Arnel and Nina who could screech the loudest?
Not a good duet.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I lifted the link from the Journey music site. I think it illustrates the need for him to use a singing coach while he's offseason with Journey.

I was expecting him to gravitate more towards the Peabo Bryson version of the song.

Unfortunately, these duets always seem to become a competition about who can hit the higher note. To Filipinos, that must be the only requirement to be considered a good singer.

He did a better version of Sweet Child the other night, if they could just keep him off of the duets though, ughh.

Pineda also did his own little solo Journey act during the same show. Maybe he just isn't allowed to do the Journey stuff in the states or on Television.

He also appears in key, hard to tell though. I need a real musician's opinion on that.

His voice is clear and strong. Sounds great. Bodes well for the new album.

I've only heard about two duets that I like with Arnel and his singing partner. They were from last year. One was with this same girl. The rest are just okay.

Grow your hair out, Arnel.

Although I'm not a fan of the song, I think the OA performance was the best, really a good job.

As far as DSB, to me, he's never replicated the performance he did with the Zoo that got aired on Ellen. I think he should try the Northern Kings version, if he wants to go with the rougher vocals.

I don't like what has become of Faithfully. I know Jana loves it but I don't care for the way he has been dragging the verses.

No, I'm not crazy about dragging the verses, which I notice especially that drag more in the beginning, not really after that. He was much better 08 with Faithfully, and I like his vocals on the remake CD of Faithfully. But I still love the tone and power and emotion of his voice on the song. And in the live setting caught up in the song not really noticeable to me at all the dragging compared to when I look at it on video.

Re Open Arms. Open Arms and Separate Ways I've never seen him have an off night on. Always spot on on those songs.

Agree with GB...Arnel is really great on OA...but don't like the dragging of notes (Faithfully). One thing I have noticed in Arnel when he is singing the high-tempo Journey songs is the prevalent of "ahhh" sounds coming out of his mouth, which totally changes the song. Must be an Asian thing, because I speak with that same dialect vowel sound, although I'm not Filipino.

Did you know Celine Dion spoke no English much prior to her release of her first US album? She must have had a hell of a coach! Arnel needs to find out who coached Celine.

That Chaka Khan impression was on ASAP, a Sunday noontime 'concert-party' show aired live here in the PI right in sync with the overall weekend-bash mood of the populace. More often than not dual performances were not intended as true duets...those numbers were barely rehearsed and were rather presented (and taken) more for the jamming and showdown feel than anything else, complementing the supposedly celebratory atmosphere in households glued to the program. The raw impromptu dog-eat-dog  vibe was deliberate, so that Arnel-Nina fuck-up was actually an anticipated (and welcome) risk as far as the original target audience was concerned.

I guess they're all busy and sing Journey songs here or there too. Deen and his new band previewed finally, and Deen sang Lights. Jonathan Cain was at the Bluebird Cafe with some musicians jamming and sang Faithfully. And Jon has done a few other things. Arnel's site follows twitter and knows pretty quick when Deen, Neal, Jonathan have shown up to perform. Pretty cool. But no Ross sightings.

Deen's new band preview. Second band up at 4:40. Still wearing his eyemakeup. 8)

 Deen is of course a fabulous drummer, but the band as a whole? - blech - my ears are bleeding from Man in the Box. Not good IMO (but the singer looks cool).

I think members of Journey out playing and mixing it up with others is a good thing. It might give them all new ideas when they come back together and get ready to record a new album. They're just plugging into the creative pool of knowlege.

When Arnel sings that song he strains like he is constipated.
