It's fuckin' Pocahontas (or Dances With Wolves) meets Ferngully on a planet (a moon, really) called Pandora.

The "alien" race is basically a tribe(s) of 10' tall, blue-skinned Mohicans.

People are excusing the connect-the-dots, paint-by-numbers story because the movie is "eye candy," effects-wise.

Thank God someone else made the Ferngully connection. The first movie I ever took my daughter to was Ferngully. We BOTH saw Avatar and went "Um, we've seen nearly this exact story before".
Up here in Seattle, they also ran a National Guard promo that lasted about 15 minutes before the movie started. Think the military is worried about how their image is portrayed in Avatar? Felt like it was damage control. And yer right, as the planet inhabitants were riding the horsey things, all I could think of was "it's the Indians". I think the movie should win awards for special effects, but as an original story? Forget about it.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

If you can find a real IMAX theatre (as opposed to one of the new converted ones), it's probably worth it. Looks great on the BIG screen.

Great movie,, but who in the world was surprised he was a man? I knew it right away. His Adam's apple gave it away. I know a few people that were surprised. Now, in the Sixth Sense, I never saw that plot twist coming, that he was dead.

Jana: The Hangover just won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Comedy Or Musical. Bradley Cooper was up on stage looking all dapper in his tux for you.

Glee just won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Or Musical TV Series. Naturally, they played Don't Stop Believin' while the cast accepted their award. It won against 30 Rock & The Office, a couple of powerful competitors. Glee: The Little Engine That Could......."I think I can..... I think I can......."

The Golden Globe for Best Picture went to Avatar. No surprise there. I might just hafta break down & go see that movie but it damn straight better be good ..... (GI Jim) ..... or I reserve to opportunity to express my "bitching" rights later on. :P

Well before you get your "Bitch" on... make sure you see the damn thing in either 3-D, or Imax! And don't try to see the movie with some guy in the back-row, because you'll miss all the good stuff! :D

Do I have a choice or isn't it automatically in 3-D?

Yeah you have a choice... you need to see it in a "3-D" theater. Seeing it in a regular theater won't be the same at all! A lot of theaters have 3-D screens nowadays. I promise that you won't regret it if you see it.

I saw it in 3D. I enjoyed it. That said, I have little to no interest in getting a 3D tv as I'm still not sure the technology is there. It's getting there, but I'm not sure it's there yet. The whole picture seemed a bit soft at times both on regular theatre and IMAX. When it comes out, I'm going to get the regular 3D version. In the end, 3D is a nice gimmick (and it may well be the way of the future), but it doesn't make a better movie.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the general public isn't going to take well to yet another format being shoved down their throats. Blu-Ray is somewhat surviving, but it's not taking the highest market share from DVD. Trying to convince everyone to go 3D is just another thing that's going to cut into market share. Time will tell if it holds on.
