Steve in an hour long writing session...

Postby G.I.Jim » Sat Jan 23, 2010 10:17 am

If you've never heard this (DAN), this shows Steve's SONG WRITING abilities front and center!!! This is an hour long session of him writing "Missing You". Very cool song IMHO, and for those of you who haven't heard this... it's incredible! Just be prepared to sit there and listen for a LONG time. It's very cool hearing him write the lyrics though. Hope you like it.......

That song sucks and was roundly rejected when it got air play. No one liked it ... myself included.

I love the song except the lyrics get a bit redundant (I think they needed a thesaurus). I have listened to those working sessions and think the funniest part was when they were talking about it sounding too "Bette Midler"...

I like the video too BTW. Certainly doesn't leave you tappin' your feet, but if you're in the mood for a sad, sentimental song, that one will do...

True... very true. This is no "Be Good To Yourself", but I love the album. Even if it IS a ballad album.

Uh-oh...better lube up, SJ. I've got a feeling you're in for a beat-down -- loon style.

I never cared much for the song either, but I'm keeping my mouth shut...

FTLOFM is Perry's last effort and will go down as far as musical history as a failure. But what i find interesting is the fact that while it's his own personal somber touch, it has a balance act for alot of Perry fans. Some like it and some do not. And if you think about it, TBF travels around the same bridge. Both are said to be Perry's swan song DO TO A BURNED OUT VOICE but i do not TOTALLY buy it.
Perry's voice on FTLOFM was out of this frick'en world. All those dam negative reviews were directed towards the style, writing and overall product and not Perry's voice. Again, i cannot think of any singer today who has a better studio voice than the man did in 1995. I noticed that on Adam Lambert's new CD it has a label on the credits, it's called (PRO TOOLS).

Don't sass me woman! The store was closed after I walked 5 miles thru the snow. It was ALL uphill, and about half way up the hill, I saw a squirrel that looked cold, so I gave him my gloves. By the time I made it to the top, the store was closed. I walked another 5 miles (up another hill) but by the time I got there, my hands were too cold to get the money out of my pocket.

I got mad and just said "FUCK IT" and walked home. When I got here, I noticed that my neighbor had just got home from the store and was in the house puting up groceries, so I jumped in the back of his mini van and stole his fucking wine.

So here I am! :D

Perry's voice was exceptional on FTLOSM but didn't have the musicianship and song-writing to go along with it. His voice was totally fried on TBF. He still possessed the ability to emote (which he can do like no other) but his voice was hollow and empty most of the time.

Coming from a die-hard Perry fan i remember the first time i heard TBF i was more shocked or for a better term dissapointed in the fact that my hero's career had officially come to its end. I could not believe how bad he sounded on that CD. I remember thinking all those years of touring in the 70's and 80's had ended his run. The truth of it all is that singers like Chris Daugherty, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and others will never have to go through that due to the age we now live in.

Ahem...well, I believe there's an old adage that anybody can be a lead singer, but not very many people can actually sing lead. Along those same lines, anybody can write a song, but not everybody is a songwriter. Yes, Perry writes songs, but in certain circles, he's not considered all that great of a songwriter - not on his own, anyway...and certainly not without Jonathan Cain somewhere nearby...I'm just sayin'...
