I can see why you would be bitter and not trusting after going though a terrible experience like that, but there are lots of good honest women out there. Don't give up just because you got burned. Hopefully in time you'll be ready for a relationship again.

I want to add a Part B to Jim's question.

Of the ones who are married (knowing what you know now) how many of you would do it again? In other words, is being married better than being single. I kinda like the single life b/c I don't have to answer to anyone .... much.

I'm in that phase right now. I was in a serious 4-year relationship that I thought was leading up to engagement/marriage. We broke up in August and honestly, once the anxiety and weirdness of not havin a serious girlfriend subsided, I haven't looked back. I really don't feel much need to get involved with anyone right now.

With that said, I do want to get married someday and not too far off in the future (don't wanna be a 40-year-old bachelor or anything), but I'm definitely taking my time and enjoying my freedom right now.

Right now, my life is pretty hectic and it's nice just to have time to myself whenever I do get it. No being forced into chick flicks or hanging out with lame friends of the significant other or being guilted into doing something when I'd rather just relax at home or vice versa if I wanna go out etc.

It blows my mind at how many friends/acquaintances of mine are rushing into things without even having financial independence established. Right now, it's especially not easy for young people to find jobs and I know some jobless people who are making things official while still living at home or still being in college!

I mean, what's the point of making things official before you even have income or a career established? That's tossing aside all other iffy things, like people who get engaged with the 2nd person they date in their lives after dating said 2nd person for a few months..

That's a very tough question, yet it isn't. Anyone who's been with someone for quite a while knows that life can become quite stale if you have the same routines day in and day out. Life can become dull. You'll start noticing other people of the opposite sex and think "Damn... those look nice" or "I wonder what kind of clothes she wear's under that dress", or...well you get the idea. There is a lot of temptation out there.

At the same time, it's nice to have someone you can trust, and share things with. It's nice to have someone to talk to and go thru life with. I think EVERY marriage needs a little change every now and then to spice things up.

BTW... Just messing with you about the rings Jason. Hope I didn't offend you.
