I dont know if any of you follow jazz or not but, when I was in High School somehow someone got ahold of Manyard Ferguson ( one of the greatest trumpet players of all time) and arranged to have him come play in our High School gym. I was 1st chair trumpet and lead trumpet in our jazz band in school so I got to hang out with him and his band and actually got to play a song with his band. Maynard was huge at the time so it was really cool to be able to see him and listen to him play.

Last week I took my daughter to see her friend in a local play and walked past Shirley Jones and Bernie Kopell (Doc from Love Boat) in the lobby. I love Shirley Jones, but I just couldn't go up and bother her (I heard some people were getting autographs 'tho)...anyway, I love her movies and from The Partridge Family and she is the step-mother of David Cassidy my childhood celebrity crush! :)
Even 'tho I live in SoCal I don't live in the "popular area" so I don't see a whole lot of celebrities...I've seen more character actors around in stores/restaurants than famous names. I'm pretty sure I recently saw Kris Kardashian in the parking lot at the grocery store (they live not far from there) - she had the same black short hair, lots of make-up, expensive car.

But it is true that many of the celebrities are much tinier/shorter than they appear onscreen!

Geez, I just remembered that a few years ago I was in an antique store and Barbra Streisand & her husband James Brolin were in there, too. Babs had her little dog with her and my sister was trying to get past them (she didn't know it was them at first) and the dog wasn't budging and Babs said to my sis, "Well, I guess he doesn't want to move." :D I doubt any ol' person gets to bring their dog into an antique store.

I had Richard Dreyfuss in front of me in line at my local WalMart about 10 days ago. Turns out he lives in the area...I had no idea.

I was grocery shopping with Clive Owens not too long ago. We were both in Whole Foods doing some late evening shopping and there he was with his hand cart going through the aisles in the desserts section and cruising the salad bar. I didn't say a word. The person I was with whispered to me, "Hey, isn't that Clive Owens?" and I looked over and he looked back at us and I shrugged and said, "Hey, well, let's leave him be." He just looked like he had had quite a day and wanted it to be over without any foolishness or nonesense from folks like us.

Oh yeah, Melissa Etheridge exercised in the same gym with me a few years ago. She was probably a few machines over and there I was on the treadmill. She was there maybe an hour or so and so was I. Nobody bothered her. And although I was kind of star struck I didn't say anything and just let her do her thing and I did mine. She was in town for a concert and I guess I thought she needed to get her exercise in before the show that evening. I think I might have waved or maybe not. It was cool.

Oh Yeah! Robert DeNiro. He was here doing a movie and living here while he shot it. They were filming at a friend's home. The house was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in the country. She was sworn to secrecy. I can't think of the name of the movie at the moment. But that was probably the craziest thing ever and yes...he's not the tallest man in the room. He does have quite the presence; I think it was the Godfather movie that has left an impression forever in my head and tainted my thoughts.

I've lived in LA for 5 years now and the only celebrities I've ever seen "out and about" are Victor Garber at LAX and Ron Jeremy at a gas station on Sunset. I feel like I should have seen more by now.

Aside from that, I've seen film crews everywhere (though the only celeb so far was Tom Hanks filming Angels and Demons), I stood out at the red carpet premiere for Mr. And Mrs. Smith (saw Brad & Angie and some other people I forget now), and I've been to a lot of comedy shows with people like Weird Al, Sarah Silverman, Bob Saget, and Dane Cook (who I got a horrible pic with),

Very nice, reminds me of No Cal or a Texas type. She was hanging with a young Asian dude, don't know what there status was. I'm considered by many to be a non-approachable type but when I was introduced to her, it was like we had known each other all of our lives. That's the kind of personal aura she gives off.

This isn't about ME meeting any stars BUT- My aunt went to high school with James Best. ("Sheriff Roscoe" from "The Dukes of Hazzard" TV series. His adoptive parents raised him in Corydon, Indiana, where my aunt grew up too.)

Of course that's before he was a star so I guess that doesn't count huh?
