Well I've heard of almost all of them. And this is a mix of old and new which is EXACTLY what it should be. How else would they ever make money on it if it's just the same "old" singers? It's the youth they want to sell to and it will be a cool way for them to see and hear the classic singers too. The first one was geared to the youth too... helllo.. remember when we were young and bought it? Some of us middle agers are starting to sound like their 80 years old

I see a few decent names, depends on who takes the solos!! Can't
wait to see the DVD, We Are The World II ~Kanye will be trying
to control this. Dang, I wish Mike Myers were there in place of
Dan Aykroyd, but it looks like Nicole Richie is taking his role.

I don't see this topping the original, but that's me!!

It is a good list....I think some of us are attached to the original song...I know I am.

and yes they need to stay current to have it sell....I just think they should have done a "new" song and leave this one alone. JMO for me it is a moment in time thing....you can't duplicate it.

No no no, got nothing to do with that. I have a long history here of being vocal with my feelings about remakes.

No they don't....just entire CD's of them

and like I said We Are The World.....it was about the moment in time and the story...for me I just think they should have shot for their own song...but then they could not use MJ's voice....so they are kind of stuck.

No, remakes don't always suck. But for me, it's rare that I find ones I truly like.
I think it's mostly because there seem to be SO many. It's seems like that's all people are doing anymore.

In the tradition of music today, once again, nobody can seem to come up with something "ORIGINAL" and so we're reaching back to what appears to be the last decent incarnation of writers.

Seriously--

Hey you Autotune, Sampling, Rapping, Actor-Singer-Wannabees-- Get yer own anthem. Actually SING it, Actually WRITE it.

This list of musicians won't do CRAP for selling the record. Most of them are no talent crap.

As I'm typing this, I'm reading some of the other responses. Looks like we all feel the same. I should've read them before I started writing.

It'll be a bunch of stupid skatting, rapping garbage.

What's Kanye gonna do, sing "IT's ALL BUSH'S FAULT, HE HATES BLACK KIDS"

Exept that there was a fair amount of 80's music that hit charts then, that were remakes from other decades. I only know because i remember the horror of me singing a song as a teen and being horrified when my dad would start singing along too. So many times I didn't realize that the songs were remakes

But things weren't SAMPLED right off the record much yet.
There weren't these PUNKS like Kanye West that actually tried to pass themselves off as "The Voice of a Generation" while basically ripping everything off.

Rap started in the 80's. It was just more main stream then. But they started that ripping things off way back then.

I know- I remember. But nobody (other than Vanilla Ice) was as much of a punk as the Kanye West's of the 2000s. In the 80s, rap was cool, now it's just about the rapper and not about the music they're making. Whatever- I think they should get their own anthem. You telling me that with all that "TALENT" none of em can write a song about THIS tragedy? Whatever, I can't stand the current music scene. It blows and is unoriginal.

No, I agree that Rap is worse now because of the bigger following they get, and the fact that so many of them are in fact "punks" with no originality. I hate Kanye. I just think it's not as bad now as everyone keep saying it is. Not THAT different from when we were kids. Rock has made somewhat of a comeback, the rap lovers have their thing, and Pop/dance club music, reminicent of the 80s, is making a come back too. I think it could be a whole lot worse. I think the younger generation finally has an appreciation for the 70's and 80's now, much more than the youth of the 90s' did.

Just as long as horrible torture like Nirvana never makes a comeback.

Not to be a pricked. But the origins of rap go back further than the 80s. I devoted ages 10-21 to this genre. First group I heard was sugarhill gang in 79. And the actual "first" rap song was King TIM III's, Personality Jock...
