He's happy for them. All are good friends of his.

I believe that, but it's gotta be a hugely ego flating experience for him because he could've easily been up there with them. Instead he's stuck playing with Marco Mendoza, Miles Schon, and a bunch of guys I've never heard of.

Come on, I'm sure Neal is really hurting. I mean all he really has is:

All his solo work
His continued huge royalties from all his Journey work as the albums just keep selling
He still has his band, Journey, which still tours and sells well
He has a double platinum, recent album with Journey
A couple DVDs, one of which debuted at number one recently
A new album in the works
Major touring planned for 2011

He must be quite jealous of the success of his friends! :P

+1 I couldn't agree more! The music is decent, but all of the songs lack polish and any kind of memorable chorus or hook. Every song on the album is forgettable, and when it comes to the lyrics it's almost like they just threw some lines together and said "okay... albums done, let's throw a tour together!". If Sammy would have taken it more serious and delivered songwriting that he's capable of, this album could have kicked some SERIOUS ass! They had more talent in that band then they knew what to do with!
The artist formerly known as Jim. :-)

Oh and I really doubt Neal is bummed to be playing with his very talented son and getting the kid some killer experience as he tries to make his way.

Maybe everyone is assuming to know the life of this band?
I mean, does anyone know of any true commercial intent here?
Why do we always expect every single bit of play, solo or group, to plastered all over the place?
Perhaps this is just a west coast jam band? Ya know, something to gig with in the off-season?
Why must it be a big deal?

Any PlanetUS vs ChickenFoot? Really?
Apples to oranges.

This is what you said in another thread:

"Doesn't everyone, every band, say that? Humming into a recorder, doing acoustic chord changes, tossing around lyrics, etc. Isn't that enough to throw a tidbit at the fans by saying "we're writing" while on the road?

And take this "heading back to SF for a new cd" thing with a huge grain of rock salt too. Just because someone is playing with ideas doesn't necessarily mean that they're doing real writing. Maybe there are sketches & drafts, but until they get into studio in album mode with a producer, I wouldn't get your nads in a pump.

later~"

WTF? I think you just like to yell at the fans.

I can see if you've never heard of vocalist Keith St John or the keyboardist John Harjo...but I know you've heard of Prairie Prince, whether you remember his name or not, you've heard his drumming before.

Prairie Prince (born Charles L'Empereur Prince, May 7, 1950, Charlotte, North Carolina) is a rock drummer. He was a member of the The Tubes and a founding member of Journey. He has also worked with Chris Isaak (on his first four albums), Todd Rundgren, Brian Eno, David Byrne, XTC, Tom Waits, Paul Kantner, George Harrison, Dick Dale, Glenn Frey, Richard Marx, Bill Spooner, Neil Hamburger, John Fogerty, Tommy Bolin, Phil Lesh, and former Tubes and Grateful Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick.

Don't give him too much credit, he probably hasn't heard of a musician with Prairie's pedigree, given the ignorance displayed by his original post.

Not yelling at any one. (No CAPS here!) Just saying that a lot of fans go crazy when they hear the slightest anything about "writing". I think that most artists have learned to bait their fans with saying those things when it's not really true. I think the word "writing" is tossed around far too frivolously. I don't consider it true writing unless someone, or a band, is actively in a studio recording & arranging. Most artists are sketching & playing with ideas all the time, so they can get away with saying that they're writing. But that doesn't mean we'll get a new record next week...or even next year.

When Revelation goes 2X Platinum, or for that matter the Manila DVD goes gold, I'll post it here.

RIAA certifications as of this week.

St. John has been singing for Montrose for quite a few years now. They were one the opening acts for Journey at "BoneBash 3". Back in 02 or 03 I think. Good singer - in the vain of Sammy, a little JSS maybe too.
