Face it people, the guy can't sing anymore. And Lora, please don't bother with How do I know? If he could he would, simple.

I will continue to listen to his old stuff, but to expect anything else at this point is just a waste of time.

It would seem to be the case, i truly belive he knows what he can and cannot do and at the moment his leagcy is intact. To come back and struggle with some material and have people say he has lost it would be to much i feel.
How old is the guy now?
I would loved to be proved wrong but cannot see it.Perry is a singer that does not sing(in public) and an artist who releases no new material.Thats like a quarterback who never plays or is in a team????

I 100% belive that if Perry could do it even with backing singers and maybe key changes he would be back in Journey, and belive me they would drop Arnel like a bad habit to have Perry back!

There is more pressure for Steve Perry to produce something, ANYTHING, than a freaking record company. Crank one out Perry! So we can all run out and grab it like fiends and then run back into our holes to listen to it feverishly! Good God people!

To be kept constantly waiting for the guy, only to have him emerge and say the same old stuff... How can anybody still be holding their breath for him? I don't get it.
I was THE hugest SP fan. Swear to God. He's the reason I wanted to sing. Greatest friggin rock voice of all time... But man... I just can't support the guy any longer. It's nice that he came out to throw out his usual tidbits of information (which have already been heard a billion times) but man, there's just NOTHING there.

It'd be nice to get SOMETHING in the way of information about what he's doing, etc. If he's doing nothing- great-Say it. According to the interview, he's really not.

All the predictions about albums in 2010, etc. appear to be nothing more than BS if you listen to the man himself. But others out there 'in the know' claim differently. Why?

Whatever. Keep waiting on him and good luck to ya. To me, he's the biggest dissapointment Rock and Roll ever had. That doesn't take anything away from his legacy, but damn, enough of the waiting.

Steve Perry does not deserve the gift he was given, Just look at the way he handles it
I was never a part of the band bla bla bla

Look at Elton, Neil Diamond U2 etc.
They keep on finding ways to reinvent themselves while Steve Perry keeps on talking about a 29 year old song.

The fact is the voice is gone and the confidence is gone also
Heck he is 61 years old with his prime behind him.

I was the biggest Perry fan also in fact I saw all his tours
Just great but his thought process when it came to being smart with his talent was simply terrible
he thought of himself before anyone else
Thats why he said he never felt like a part of the band.

He was the sole reason Smitty, Ross, Greg and Herbie were all out of the band.
He took them all down. And he also took JRNY down.
The entity itself lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of Steve Perry.

Now all he has left is he misses it and he is talking into his tape recorder giving lines for songs.
He knows if he releases new music the first things he will hear is when are you going to tour and when are you going back with JRNY
Neither of which he will ever do again,

You have had a great career Steve we all know its over.
Thanks for the memories.

To be fair to Perry, as I believe Cyndy has pointed out, HE HIMSELF has NEVER promised a new album was done, in the can, set for release, etc.

He's been typically vague and I feel that rumors of this release date, and that material to be included in the package, and this surprise appearance on AI, this sectret concert appearance, that list of booked dates for a tour are simply his fans' vivid imaginations and wishful thinking spurred by the hints he's dropped that he may be making songs again. I don't think it's coming from the perry camp.

While not wanting to infringe on any one's freedom of speech, Why don't you crap in your OWN house?

Or does it make you hard when you trample on what others enjoy? Do you feel superior?

And finally, - and not because of SP - but because you and others feel that it is necessary to explain to the people here how useless and unnecessary their feelings are - with all due respect, kiss my fucking ass

You're still not making all that much sense. Just because he's said he has been writing or making demos doesn't mean anything. People take "writing" to mean "album coming out". Then, 3 years later, no album, and it becomes "but...but... he said he was writing!"

Recorded demos doesn't mean that either. Demo = rough draft. Did you people listen to the same thign I did? Jeez, he flat out SAID that nothing has been "started". There's your answer guys!! He gave the answer... just not the one some of you wanted. You people are odd. You're upset because something that was never said isn't happening.

Wait a sec.... so people can be in the Journey forum and go on and on about what crap Arnel is (among much worse things thrown at him about his ethnicity, etc.), and can slam Neal and Jon all they want with some pretty out of line comments, but if people come here and piss and moan about Perry not producing- that's not allowed?

Double Standard Alert.

I posted here (in the Under 200 Forum) because this is where the Perry thread was. Guess I could've done it in the Journey forum...

One thing I DON'T understand is why people start throwing crap at each other in these forums. So some don't agree with the blind hero worship, or have grown out of it. So what? Everbody's friends here I think, I just don't get why Perry's fans don't expect more out of him. Oh well, it's just my opinion.

I will try not to post a dissenting opinon... oh wait, now I'm being Sarky.

Thank you... and to be fair - I'm neither defending Perry, nor slamming him.

I'm just a person interested in facts, and I think it's ridiculous the way people lose their mind over what is and/or is NOT said and make it out to be something other than what it is.

All of the "oh my god, what a loser.... he's STILL not talking about what he's going to do or when he's going to release something...the guy is done and I'm so disappointed...." just kills me. At NO time in the last however many years did he EVER say he was going to. Find me one damn quote where he said anything like that...

And do NOT give me "Oh he didn't say it but he always teases and talks about how me 'might do something...' and he's a big jackass for always saying that..."

I've said this before. He isn't the one with the problem. People love to take what 3rd parties are saying as fact or reading WAY into what Steve or people who know him have to say about it instead of looking at what is actually being said, and the result is a 20 page thread about what a shithead people think he is. If you all would stop taking 3rd and 4th hand info as fact, you wouldn't be so disappointed when the rumors don't come to fruition.

I still think it's hilarious that Steve went on the radio and GAVE the answer to the question people wanted asked ("is he recording/put something new out or not". The answer he gave was, essentially, "No" (actually, "nothing is started"... but since he gave no info about whether aything would be in the future, I took it to mean, "no I am not - not at this time) and I feel like I'm the only one who heard what actually got said. Those who are bitching are just mad that he didn't say what THEY wanted to hear.

Blind hero worship! It truly doesn't matter to me whomever it is you are; if in your life you have been successful in making a contribution to the world with whatever talent you may have; then whom am I to make any disparaging comments.

I enjoy Arnel, like Neal, approve of Obama and might find something even pleasing about O'Reilly. There is no need for me to pile on any negativity in their lives or in the lives of others who have tried and not succeeded due to life circumstance or who have been successful.

Life is precious. The words I speak, the thoughts I think and the behaviors which I practice are important to me and I don't wish to clutter my life with things which are not important or are unnecessary. I'd rather be useful and promote healthiness and vitality of life then focus on negativity which represses and harms the natural goodness of me and you.

   Sarkywool. Come here and give me a hug.

I feel for him.
He had a fabulous voice which all of us admire so much and most of us wish we could sing half as good as he could in his prime, but....you don't miss what you never had. We never had it so we can't know what it feels like to lose it.

He had it and now it's gone, or if there's still a voice there, it's not what it was. That interview went a little way towards telling us that there is a great sadness in his heart now he no longer performs live.

If he comes right out and says what he fears is true it makes everything sort of final and maybe that would have an adverse effect on him. Deep in his psyche.
By telling himself that maybe, just maybe he might record songs again perhaps that keeps him going.

I think everyone needs a goal of some kind so they can keep forging ahead with their lives, otherwise why are we here?

If you don't have that your spirit fades.

That's my take on it.

And if Nicky Horne gets Steve to present a show or two on Planet Rock, then that will be something to look forward to.

And let's remember this radio interview was to promote the release of a Greatest Hits CD in the UK.
Nothing other than that.

Any hope of other things was speculation.

And as I said before, it was a rare treat to hear him speaking live on UK radio.

Well, in fact, he did say that.

Q: Will you expect a solo record again soon?

SP: Yeah, working on that, really I'm trying to do that.

Don't try it brywool, you are smarter than that. You can read and can see that I never questioned anyone's right to a dissenting opinion.

I do not defend Steve Perry blindly - he doesn't need me or anyone else to

And I have nerev defended the constant attacks on arnel in another forum.

I very clearly referred to the constant putting down of PEOPLE WHO ENJOY PERRY.

If you do not enjoy him, fine - that is your right.

I just get tired of posters who do enjoy him being put down.

Now climb down off your stool of indignation.

And for the record, I don't feel that I have the right to expect anymore of Perry than he has already done. I can still be a fan if he does not do another thing.

AGREED. Being singers (or reasonable facsimiles of -speaking for myself, not you) I feel for the guy. Congregation, Turn to the page of "Losing It" from Rush's album Signals. I do know what it's like to lose your voice for a time and it's HELL. Arnel, funnily enough also knows this. The PROBLEM I have with the guy is that why does he not just say "You know, I toured the crap out of my voice, and the simple truth is, I damaged it [if that's what's going on] and while I can still sing, it's in a diminished fashion and I would very much like to get myself back into vocal shape before getting on the treadmill again". One, it'd garner sympathy for the guy and it would also prove him to be more honest than he has been. Two, it might actually open some doors for him for treatment. To constantly hide behind cliche interview answers is lame.

By telling himself that maybe, just maybe he might record songs again perhaps that keeps him going.

The truth shall set him free. He's alluded to the fact that he's been less than truthful about some things in interviews and songs "I Am" for example.

Nothing other than that.

True, but the question of new material was asked and he answered with the usual non-committal answer. Oh well.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Oooh tell me what he said about 'I am', please.

I think he's referring to lyrical content...
We were lost and alone
Somewhere so very new
Caught in the magic of love
And your forgiveness
Selfish and too blind to see
Love was our music and, oh...
I am, lost in a world of emptiness
I am, learning to tell the truth
I am, lost in a world of emptiness
I am, learning to tell the truth
So many roads to choose

He had it and now it's gone, or if there's still a voice there, it's not what it was. That interview went a little way towards telling us that there is a great sadness in his heart now he no longer performs live.

If he comes right out and says what he fears is true it makes everything sort of final and maybe that would have an adverse effect on him. Deep in his psyche.

I like what you wrote, SusieP. There is a deep well of mixed emotions he has that we just will never know...but, he's letting us know some of it...he misses us, misses what was a huge part of himself, but it's complex. I understand. That is why I don't get upset about him not bringing it back to us...sure it would be wonderful, but I've heard in the last few years his interviews & accepted it and I'm not waiting.
The fact, that he can now play around with sketches of music and gets excited about it and enjoys it for himself is really a good thing. I'm all for people, any people, getting back to "doing something that makes you feel good"...I know that feeling of returning back to my own creativity.
And, I'm not criticizing what other fans might feel...the dissapointment/frustration...those are their own opinions on this open forum.
(also, SusieP, I'm sorry that you guys didn't get Journey/SP back then...I say it didn't hurt the band in the long run, but it did hurt the fans, like you that had hoped to see them.)

It is a sadness for me that I have only seen him on DVD - but I'm a "the glass is half full" kind of person. I'm happy to have the DVD's rather than nothing at all.

But to get to hear him sing live would absolutely make my day.

I just think that if he comes right out and says he can't sing any more it would make his spirit fade.
Unlike my mate Brywool I don't think it would set him free. I think it would have an adverse effect.
You have to have hope that someday something you have lost will come back to you.
Hope keeps us going.
