And we all know only two people can answer that question for sure. Other than MJ, i can't think of a better voice with untouchable class like Perry. He flat out was the best ever, i don't care what my wife says, LOL.
journey361 wrote:The funny thing about all this is that we argue, agree, bicker, crindge and laugh about so many ideas concerning Perry that we really never stop to concur that the real reason were even here is that he was so dam great and to me a non-human fixture. Back in the day, i could have never imagined meeting him. Look at it this way, if he were your average, good or steady singer, we wouldn't care as much. But the fact is, we do care to the point where it causes bitterness and somber conversations.

next time he comes out of his hidey hole, why don't we just recycle one of the old threads since they're all the same anyway?![]()

The answer he gave was, essentially, "No" (actually, "nothing is started"... but since he gave no info about whether aything would be in the future, I took it to mean, "no I am not - not at this time) and I feel like I'm the only one who heard what actually got said. Those who are bitching are just mad that he didn't say what THEY wanted to hear.
Well, in fact, he did say that.
Q: Will you expect a solo record again soon?
SP: Yeah, working on that, really I'm trying to do that.
And where, again, does it say "I am coming out with new material"?
You know what? I have several tentative things I would like to have happen but I am in no position, presently, to say whether they will. That's the same thing. People are hearing what they want to hear.

Perhaps "struggling" isn't the proper word. But I'm quite sure that the album was a "copy and paste" job of many, many takes ... most being only a few words at a time. Someone here posted awhile back that there's an Adobe program that subtracts the music from the background and isolates the vocals, and when that was done it was quite apparent that the vocals were many takes "strung" together. If true, one could deduce that it took everything only a studio could offer to produce the vocal quality on that album. And that's what always separated Steve Perry from everyone else ... the ability to actually sound as good or better live. I'm pretty sure he knew he couldn't pull it off live anymore and at some point, either before the recording or after, he realized that.
I have 30 mins of studio outakes...the guys mucking around. Perry sounds in FINE voice. Just that little bit deeper and darker, but I prefer that. Some of those early high notes hurt my ears.
I', looking for a rocking Perry album that features darker, moodier vocals and that sultry soul we know he can deliver.

Bluejeangirl and SusieP have it right - SP said he is enjoying playing around with music and making demos, but nothing is ready for any kind of release and he never stated he plans to release anything. He misses the stage (well who would not miss having thousands of people screaming and cheering for you?), but has not stated he plans to actually go back. Whether or not he has lost his gift or is afraid to get on stage and disappoint people, but holds the hope of one day experiencing the love of performing again, who are we to question that? He has made us NO PROMISES and we have no right to EXPECT anything - maybe he will, maybe he won't. We can only hold out a little hope that we will get to hear him again and go on living our lives like he has gone on with living his. If that isn't good enough for some, let it go, move on, and forget about it.

My point was he said yes to releasing a solo record. People expect. Makes perfect sense to me.

Big asset in helping Journey sell what 45-50 million + his 2.5 million solo records. How dare he handle that gift so terribly, huh?
Big deal he lost them 50 million more.
And 100 million in toursI was never a part of the band bla bla bla
""And what that meant was that there was a period of time where I always felt, from Neal, that I had to prove myself worthy of the position I was trying to occupy in the group. And not until it really took off, I think, did that question really get answered." SP / GQ'08
So he never felt like part of the band for what 2 weeks?
JRNY with Steve took off very fast.
He proved himself when he finished Infinity.Look at Elton, Neil Diamond U2 etc.
They keep on finding ways to reinvent themselves while Steve Perry keeps on talking about a 29 year old song.
Give 'em time - Are they retired yet?
Nope they keep rockinI was the biggest Perry fan also in fact I saw all his tours
You coulda fooled me.
Ok your a fool
bang ZoomJust great but his thought process when it came to being smart with his talent was simply terrible
he thought of himself before anyone else
"I was always on the edge of being what I expected out of myself, and what people wanted me to be, and I never wanted to settle for anything short of what it should be. And so I was always livin’ on that edge." SP /GQ'08
Yea watching baseball games is really livin on the edgeThats why he said he never felt like a part of the band.
"I didn’t have years of being in Santana under my belt, like Neal and Gregg. Ross Valory had played with Steve Miller and people like that, I didn’t have that. Aynsley Dunbar had played with everybody. I didn’t have that under my belt. So, yeah. I was the new kid. And I think that proving myself was something that went on for quite some time with the band members." SP /GQ'08
BullshitHe knows if he releases new music the first things he will hear is when are you going to tour and when are you going back with JRNY. Neither of which he will ever do again,
Okay, so he doesn't release any - problem solved!
Perfect quitterYou have had a great career Steve we all know its over.
I think he RETIRED 13 + years ago. Aren't you a bit late coming to that conclusion?
Nope knew it a long time ago
Not sure Steve knows it yetThanks for the memories.
And the headaches?

Cool, Andrew! Didn't you also get to hear the more recent demos along with lora & cyndy? What I wouldn't give. I love all "his voices"...the early high notes and the deeper tones later...they all move me like no other.

Andrew, thank you for this update. I wasn't aware that you had heard anything unreleased.

Perry doesn't owe the fans shit. If he wants to travel around the world collecting litter sand and black t-shirts; then that's his choice.
