Vodka, I have no problem with as long as it comes with vermouth and olive juice. :D

Each person should drink 50,000 beers at a weekend rock n roll party.

I have yet to have a real martini. I usually go for the sweet things, like lemon drops. I should try at least ONE and see what I think, but I'm not sure I'd like the vermouth. Olives I LOVE though!

you don't taste vermouth... a martini is made with, literally, 4-5 drops of it.
in fact, i'm not even sure what the actual point of putting it in there at all is. i should look this up. :!:

Sounds good! And actually, the citrus and the fruity sugar stuff is what I love, but citrus at night doesnt' do well for me. If I liked it, I might actually have them more often. I mean I LOVE gin and tonic with lime, and most people hate that, because it's so bitter, so maybe I'd like a real martini, who knows!

Ok, if you can drink gin and LIKE it, you'll have no problem with martinis. Gin tastes like dirt!

Vermouth is basically wine and like i said, when used in a cocktail like that, you do just 4-5 drops of it.

Wiki explains it better than I can.... I knew it has something to do with the way it's supposed to taste but I never bothered with research....lol...

In a cocktail, it serves as a moderating agent to reduce the percentage of alcohol by volume in the drink and provide an herbal flavor. In his book The Joy of Mixology, Gary Regan categorizes these drinks as "French-Italian cocktails" because dry vermouth was traditionally referred to as French vermouth and sweet vermouth was traditionally referred to as Italian vermouth. The most well-known cocktails containing vermouth are the Martini and the Manhattan.

I have my nights where I'm in old form, but all in all, I can't pound beers like I used to. I used to do 20-25 in a 4 hour period no problem as recently as a year and a half ago (keep in mind I'm not that big of a guy). Now I reach a point where I just know I can't drink any more beer. I don't really count, but I know I'm not drinking nearly as much as I used to.

Omg, you two are killing me. Must I teach you the ways?!

Olives are the traditional martini garnish, so that's how it came about. Somewhere along the line someone decided to vary the martini by tossing in the juice from the garnish.... adding the olive juice to a martini makes it a "Dirty Martini" (my standard drink of choice) so if you ever hear that, that's what it's referring to. And it tastes awesome, if you're an olive fan.

Oh no, I knew that, it's just funny! My aunt likes "extra dirty" martinis and I've watched her make them, I've just never tried one, lol.

Yes, I do know the difference between dirty and straight martinis. My friend is a bartender and he's explained it, but he knows I like sugary things, so he's always making stuff like that. And I LOVE olives, all kinds, so the juice in it I would probably like. And Gin and Tonic is not sweet at all and I am drawn to that, so I should give a dirty martini a try!

That's my favorite way to have vodka, but the citrus comes back to haunt me sometimes :( I love limes so much so I drink it anyway, but I always suffer. My hangovers are just reflux!
