Hey Guys!
I listened to the interview, just like the rest of you. So now I too, must put in my two cents.
Here goes....First of all I was very happy to hear his voice even it was only an interview. He always seems to be grateful that he is remembered for his time spent in Journey. I believe that he put his whole heart and soul into making Journey work as well as it did for all those years. That said, it also means he made some serious personal sacrifices for it to work. Meaning, his personal life suffered because he spent all his energy in making Journey the band it has become with or without him. He lost the time that he can never get back, time lost with his mom, his dad and grandparents. I beleieve it was because of thier influence that he worked so hard to make them proud of him. Meanwhile, his personal relishionsip with Sherrie suffered because he could not give into that relasionship 100% due to his comimint to Journey.
Remember back when they were at their height in the 80's they were selling out 70,000 seats in stadiums across the country and they were on the road for 18 months at a time. When the tour would finished it was back to the studio to record and back on tour again. So much time devoted to Journey and it's sucess, and too little time spent with the ones he loved. Just all that work alone can burn out a person but in the end all the sacrifes made to make it work only to loose it all. That has got to be devasting. By his end of his time with Journey he had lost his beloved mom, dad and grandparents not to mention he lost his Sherrie too.
So sure this Steve Perry we listen to in the interview is a different one from the one we remember up on stage belting out "Don't Stop Believing", this Steve is more subdue and humble. He has been away from the big lights along time now. He has never said anything bad about the members of Journey. In fact he always seems to speak about his time with them with great respect.
That being said, of course he is shy when it comes to maybe getting back into it. After all, the music industry has changed so much since his last record, yes record, now CDs and itunes, just that alone makes it an all together a different business. Not to mention that as we get older we can't move around as easliy as we used to when we were younger. I believe he mentioned that too, that getting older hurts, with it's aches and pains some times.
As for his ever making a statement that said he has stuff ready for a new CD he never said that. He admits to missing the music and trying to dabble in it again and that he also misses the audiance. Who wouldn't he was so popular and still is so loved by many. So in my own opion Steve already gave us eveything an entertainer could give to his fans and he made some scacifies for that too. So if and when he decides he is ready to make more music I'll be there, with "Open Arms", "Patiently", waiting as my "Foolish Heart", has been "Missing You", Steve!
Peace & Love.
