MOST WELL KNOW SONG EVER - RRHOF SHOULD TAKE NOTE

Postby yogi » Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:06 am

At the High School I coach at our seniors recently performed their senior play. Before the play began and for the introduction they played a video showing the students that were acting in the play. While doing this one of the songs playing during the video was Journey's 'Dont Stop Believin'. " I promise you 99% of the people in the auditorium young and old, black, hispanic, asian & white knew the song and were singing along while this portion of the video was playing. It was incredible to witness.

Our school did around 15 performances My family and I saw two of them. This went on at both performances and from what the drama teacher told me at every performance. They performed the play for all the campuses. My young son and daughter said all the kids at their schools sang along, and this was the 'funnest part of the play'.

I swear everyone knows and loves this song.

Is there another song from any era that has the same effect?

There is NO doubt in my mind it is the most loved song EVER.

This alone should put Journey in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

It does have that effect, Yogi...people just can't help themselves, feet start tapping, heads start bobbing
and before you know it you're in full blown believin' mode. Nice Story!!

While DSB, is up there, I'm going to say that We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody, Born To Be Wild and Wild Thing may rank a little bit higher on the chart of universally recognizable tunes. I'll start a thread on the subject.

Yesterday has like, 3000 recorded cover versions or some incredible number.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Yeah, a bunch of jokers who spit in the face of rock n roll by faking it for 2 to 3 years deserves to get recognition. The only way they get close to the Rock n Roll HOF is to play the local theater in Cleveland. NO WAY do they get in, never, ever.

You're right, it is a joke. Plus Madonna got in and she's lip-synched a lot of her career in concert, not so much these last few concerts.

DSB is the most popular song in The United States. Everyone knows it. Cain's architecture of this song and Perry's vocals are simply incredible.

Even with all that is happening with this song Perry still sits and does nothing.

If Perry was still in the band, the "forthcoming album" would be dust in the wind and Journey would never, ever tour again.

He's the reason I went into music 25 years ago. He may have "held the keys to the customized Harley," but I don't miss him anymore. Pineda has saved this band.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

I know he sings great but Pineda is just a fillin just like Gowan and all the rest.
Steve Perry should be singing with JRNY but he is just too messed up in the head.
He can't even listen to himself sing anymore what the hell is that.
The man needs some help, Mommy is gone and he has nobody to turn to.
If she was here she would say Damnit Steve get your ass out there and sing

You just have to believe that after all these years Herbie was right when he said "He's gone to all of the best vocal coaches in the world and he's just got nothing left. There's nothing there." Herbie seems to be a straight shooter, like him or not.

The problem St John is Perry needs to sing for about a year straight.
His voice is stale and his cords are dead.
He sucked opening night in Milwaukee on the Strange Journey tour
3 months later in LA the guys voice warmed up and and man he was firing much better.
He just won't work through this live, He yells his songs and does not just sing them from the gut,
He would have to sing alone day after day week after week month after month to get that voice opened up.
Not going to happen to lazy at this point to much effort .

What is wrong with you? He spoke at length of how he wanted to be a DJ as a child and at a very young age used to practice his timing. SP was invited to Scotland by the interviewer to GUEST DJ on a show where they have had other celebrities do the same, not sing. So before you go calling someone a liar, why don't you pay attention and get your facts straight?

As far as the Rock and Roll HoF- who cares? Blondie's in there for God's sake. Shows you how valid it is...

Who cares when and where he said it. Herbie is a bitter old guy who spouts off a lot of garbage. I don't give two shits whether he did an MR interview or not. The guy is slanted and bias, and a fucking blowhard. I used to think he was a rock n roll god of a manager, but if you think about it, he is most responsible for ruining the band at it's best, when he burned up his lead singer, the main cog in the wheel and the guy who made the band famous, like a wild fire sparked by the rubbing of Rosie Odonell's inner thighs. Gee, what a grand idea Herbert? Schedule Perry to sing 31 consecutive nights in a row on the Departure tour, singing basically operetta like vocals. Yes, he did, I have that schedule somewhere. Then he and Bill Graham, RIP, decided that the band needed to push on during the Escape tour, even when the band had said repeatedly that they were spent. It was all about money, which is fine, but had Herbert had some long range vision, he could have milked this train for another 10 or so years, and you wouldn't have a guy like Perry, standing up to him finally in 1986, burned out and voice toasted. Perry had a set of stones for doing this. You may have had another 2 or three albums and tours and the band could have retired at the top of the game, instead of taking 20 hour bus rides going to play 2,000 seat theaters and fairgrounds.

So when he bashes Neal, Cain, Valory that's fine, he is "the man" but he's a bitter old man full of shit when he smears The Groundhog?
