New "We Are The World" song blows chunks

Postby Journey/Survivor » Sat Feb 13, 2010 11:55 am

Not that I was ever really a fan of the original. But this remake of "We Are The World" sucks beyond words!

It's an absolute joke.

I was stunned. Who was the rapper who did something strange in it? I thought it was a joke at first with his vocals. I guess the longer version will have more of the solos, from what I gather.

There was RAPPING in We Are The World.... WHAT THE HELL?!?!??!?!

My lord that was terrible. Should have left it be. And what was with recycling Mike? Is this about Haiti or about a fallen idol? Don't get me wrong - not against Mike or paying tribute or whatever.... but we've done that in many ways already - this was supposed to be about Haiti and they missed the point. Absolute crap. The rapping killed it.

Ofcourse. You just have to take a look at the original lineup, as every singer in that song who had a part to sing was and still are legends, alot them are the greatest singer of all time, and always will be. My Guess the reason Jimmi Jamison, Mickey Thomas and likes were not part of the original is because they had Perry.

But this new lineup, well it's for the cause but also a big gimmick as well, and there might be a few living legends in the new version, but it's still very medicore in terms of talent compared to the 80's epic.

It's even worse than I thought it could be.
JESUS- DUMP THE FUCKING AUTOTUNE AND JUST SING. If you can't then get the hell out.

Sound like robots from iRobot did a commercial. Terrible and embarrassing.

In all it's glory. Overly produced vocals?. Honestly, it wasn't that bad! yes it's not the original, and yes it's not everyones cup of tea. I loved the original but, not too sure what to make of this one.

I'm listening to this, waiting for the big BIG! vocals, like when Huey Lewis did his part, in this version it was, wait for it, waiiit for it... fail.

But hey, it's not 1985 anymore, and to me this video really shows the world how much music and artists have taken a HUGE step backwards in terms of talent and just the music scene in general.

God, that was a piece of shit. If you got to use autotune that bad, then you shouldn't even be there. Pink was one of the few who did it good. Didn't like some of the artists phrasing either.

But who cares, as long it'll help a lot of Haitians.

O-M-G!!! Horrible. The only bright spot for me was Celene Dion. I thought she channelled Cyndi Lauper pretty well. It seems a little odd to me that in trying to raise money for a tragedy-stricken country/situation, that they have video of the citizens dancing and 'partying'. I'd think if you wanted to tug on some heartstrings, you'd show more dire circumstances.

They should've used a new song. :(

God God! What a piece of certifiable shit. Seriously. I thought the original was one of the worst self serving pieces of shit out there.....this is worse.

I wonder how many of these artists are going to cash in on this. Serioulsy, I'm betting Lionel Richie has an ablum that's about to come out within the next year....what makes it worse is that the beneficiaries from this are using images of the kiddie fucker too....

Sad, really sad...and I'd be willing to guess that the amount of under-the-table glad handing to get all of these artists into one place could have probably fed the people in haiti for a week or more....

WOW, where to begin ... all those people and only a couple of standouts ...Pink was Fabulous, Celine was
on and I loved the guitar by MJ's adorable little guitar player, oh and was that Toni Braxton? (loved her). The vocals by this group
were not strong enough as a whole or individually to make an impact.
I realize this is a new day and the music biz has changed tremendously, but I felt nothing, no goosebumps, no WOW, no
I want to see this again. I LOVED the first version, the artists involved seemed to want to be there, seemed honored
to be there and put forth their best effort ...there was a sense of urgency. I watch the old version today and I still
get goosebumps, I'm still in awe of those artists and their talents, it still brings a tear...I do feel like
crying after watching this new version ... after I get over my shock. :(

Again ...a new song would have alleviated^^^, perhaps I'll feel differently after I watch We Are The World 25, The Story Behind The Song ...

A complete disaster. God love em for trying to raise money, and I truly hope it DOES make millions. But what a piece of crap. You guys mentioned the rap section? Sheesh, that's the only good part!

Bingo. Jeez you guys are a tough crowd.

I think the 'Everybody Hurts' video has more impact

. . . but go ahead, let loose about how 'lame' that song is. Again, who cares? - isn't this about making money for the Haitian people, not the 'greatness' of the song or the singing???

I agree with you Trip- it's a great cause and I truly hope it makes millions. I'm just looking at it from an artistic perspective, as yet ANOTHER example of how close to total artistic bankruptcy the music industry is. As if those putrid performances at the Grammy's weren't bad enough...

But would it sell that much more without the rap, or if it was a 'new' song, or with some artists more near and dear to our hearts? Maybe - but it's still millions. I don't think most people analyze it that much - like ' I would have bought it had it not been for the rap part'. I know I don't - it's just one song! :)

Maybe they should make it as:

"In order to donate to Haiti AND TO NEVER HEAR THIS SONG AGAIN, please donate!"

That'd work for me.

In my opinion, the song wasn't meant to be ground breaking or artistic. At first, it was meant to simply commemorate a song and cause that WAS ground breaking 25 years ago. Then the earthquake happened and it had a chance to be duel-purpose.

Also, I don't think they are trying to target people like me and you. We give money when we have it and don’t need a song to do it - but young people need a push at times. Those are the artists that are top 40 right now and will draw the crowds. I listen to the radio in the car with my kids and I can barely get 5 miles before I'd rather set myself on fire and run screaming. But they love it.

All I can say is that while I was TRYING to nap, they were blasting this new version over, and over, and over. They love it. I don't, but I don't think it was intended for me to.

For me, Pink was the pest part of it.
