Man Kicked Off Airplane For Too Much Body Odor

Postby Voyager » Sat Feb 20, 2010 1:10 am

It's too bad schools and offices don't use this policy. I used to sit behind a kid in junior high that stank like shit! People are usually scared to confront people with bad body odor because they don't want to offend them. It's about time somebody told these stinkers to go home and stink by themselves!

(CNN) -- Air travelers already have to deal with unruly passengers, excessively talkative ones and many other types who make flying miserable.

But a new low may just have been reached for weary road warriors: The overwhelmingly smelly passenger.

A man on Jazz Air, a regional airline in Canada that also serves U.S. cities, was reportedly kicked off a plane earlier this month because of his strong body odor.

"People were just mumbling and staring at him," said a woman who sat near the man, according to The Guardian, a newspaper in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, where the flight originated on February 6. It was a very uncomfortable situation, she added.

Another passenger described the smell as "brutal."

Jazz Air spokeswoman Manon Stuart confirmed that a passenger was "deplaned" from the flight, but she could not provide specific information about the person involved or the reason why he was asked to leave because of privacy issues.

"As an airline, the safety and comfort of our passengers and crew are our top priorities. Therefore, any situation that compromises either their safety or comfort is taken seriously, and in such circumstances, the crew will act in the best interest of the majority of our passengers," Stuart said.

"It's important to understand that our crew members make every effort to resolve a situation before it becomes an issue. Unfortunately, in some circumstances, it may become necessary for our crew to remove passengers."

The airline, like most air carriers, doesn't have a specific policy covering body odor, Stuart said.

This is a completely reasonable reason to boot someone off of an airplane.
No one should have to deal with that for hours with no escape.

That is really gross and totally reasonable for them to kick him off... after all, if he doesn't clean himself, chances are he could also be sick etc.

I also feel I shouldn't have to sit next to someone doused in heavy perfume or cologne. I get sick from the smell and a massive headache.

Some people are allergic to that stuff too. I am a wearer of perfume and one of the managers here is always shooing me away. She's allergic to all kinds of stuff, and most colognes and perfumes bother her severely, even in light doses like mine, nevermind the people who basically shower in it.

add to that people who talk loud, fart , burp loud, people who have crying babies and people who snore, and you will end up with a plane looking like this:

I can count on no hands the times I've worn cologne in my life. It's totally unnecessary if you have a decent deodorant and a decent body wash. Anything after that is fucking nostril overload. I hate that shit. Not to mention I have pretty sensitive skin and it'd feel pretty shitty to put that stuff on after a shave

That's me. I get ill from it and massive sinus headaches immediately. I have made people get out of my car and wash it off b/c I just can't take it in confined spaces, except a few fragrances.

I would sue their ass. Sorry, but it's not against the law to stink. Unfortunately, the guy should have the right to fly. This is a tough one. Seriously folks, if you were a judge in this case, how can you decide in favor of the airlines? What if this smelly fucker was flying home to see his dying mother and was deplaned, and had to wait until the next flight which was the following day, and in the meantime, mom passed on? oops. yes I know, an extreme case, but nevertheless....

As for Behshad's comments, about farting, talking and snoring- everyone farts. Many snore and everyone talks. Hell on my overnight flight from LAX to Baltimore for the first MR Party ever, I had the middle seat. I was showered, but other than that, I was hammered drunk, had to get up to take a leak every 15 minutes, and when I slept I snored like a freight train and I can bet my kids life I was passing lethal gas. I remember farting so bad on a Canadian Airlines flight that I took the avenue of saying something to my fellow passenger, remarking how it started smelling, as if I was the one who smelled it, not created it.

Ugh, this. The first and only red-eye cross-country flight I took had a Mom and her squirmy, crying toddlers in my row. It was 3AM and I was ready to smack them.

Anyway, I'm all for kicking super smelly people off airplanes, but it's hard because the gauge is so subjective... still, I would much rather sit next to a fat person on a plane than a smelly one.

It's in the bill of rights.

but its the airlines right to make sure the other 150 passengers are comftorable and not having a worse experience because one guy is stinking up the whole plane...

Remember the old days of flying when you were a kid... your mom made you dress professionally, clean up... act like a GENTLEMAN... BE POLITE.. have manners... etc... now the masses... act like they OWN THE AIRLINE with their 59.00 fares that they purchased.... and can dress anyway they want... act anyway they want...be as drunk as they want... show up 5 minutes LATE for departure and excpect the airline to take care of them... and belittle anyone they want... I have seen it happen... its not a pretty sight...
