As far as the English language, once you allow yourself to think that Arnel is Filipino and realize that English wasn't his first language then you will have a more appreciation on how he sings and critiques the language through singing. Arnel gets on stage and is clearer than I would ever imagine once he talks in his normal English standard. Guys like Augeri and tons of singers sing differently and put their own spin on the language anyhow since there are certain criteria's and rules to live by when it comes to pronouncing in your music and vocals. I looked way past that and since then, I've been even more impressed with Arnel's singing givin his language and background being from a native country, now singing for an American rock band. I guess I look at things differently than some.

Good post YoungJRNY. I think it's easy for many people to take for granted what Arnel has accomplished. A Filipino fronting an American rock band can be no easy feat, until it comes from the heart and that's where it comes from with Arnel. He loves to entertain people.

I've got this black friend named Ray. Journey died after TBF, as far as he was concerned. He'd heard the band with Augeri and Soto. He was no longer a fan. Summer of 2008 we were out on the river in my boat. I was playing disc 2 of Revelation and he was saying "man I miss the days of Steve Perry and Journey". I said, Ray, that's not Perry!. Ray: "Bullshit it's not but he sounds a bit different....better maybe". Is this a remastered disc? I said close, Ray....close. I pulled out the album cover of Revelation and showed it to him. He just sat there stunned. Since then he's been to no less than 8 Journey concerts with Pineda. My friend Ray is disabled and money is no object. He will literally get on a plane and fly out to go see them. Pineda has indeed brought some old fans back to Journey.

I saw Journey over 20 times with Augeri, 3 times with Soto and 9 times with Pineda, and the loudest crowds and most talked about singer during and after the shows was Pineda. People eat this guy's big voice up. I sat in the Heart fan club section for most of the 2008 shows and people couldn't stop talking about him. Augeri and Soto never had that sort of "chatter" at concerts I was at ... and I think it's because their voices simply don't command the accolades. Augeri was always struggling with pitch and Soto has an average professional voice with above average power ... but he's not that soaring tenor voice that Journey fans want.

A bomb? Why? I have always acknowledged Pineda's talents. The only problem I have with Pineda was his unprofessional approach to the Super Bowl show, and his fans are way over the top. Remember his fans saying he should have been THE Super Bowl Halftime act? I took that one personally. The Pineda hardcore fans are just idiotic.
