Even at the last few gigs he's done he hasn't sang even more than one of his originally penned songs. He's already got some media critics in his homeland deriding him and Charice for not creating their own identity as they continue to to play the covers circuit. If he can't write, at least have some local well known Filipino talent write songs specifically for him that might appeal to that audience if only to test the waters for when his career with Journey is over.
Not like the guy's had a ton of time to get writers together or write his own stuff since the Journey tour's been over. Also, if he's not faced with "I'll have no band after 6 months for the rest of my life", there's really no hurry for him to do this.
Of course, he shouldn't worry about it now while he has Journey, but if people think he is going to just pop in to Asian stardom once this current gig ends they don't really understand how the entertainment industry works in the Philippines. It's not really about talent there so much as good looks and an open book life style. As Arnel isn't over 6ft tall and the type to have an affair with his young singing peers, he doesn't really fit into the industry per say. Why do people think they always partner him with Charice when possible. They are both outsiders, being more so tolerated than accepted within their own home town industry.
All that being said, I see him doing another 3 to five years with his current employment engagement.
