The "Storm" over Hannah's outfit

ESPN commentator Tony Kornheiser has been suspended for two weeks for insulting SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm's racy red outfit.

Last week, Kornheiser, 61, insinuated that Storm, 47, was too old to wear the flashy red go-go boots and short skirt she sported on a recent telecast.

'SHE DRESSES TOO YOUNG'

Tony, who hosts ESPN's Pardon the Interruption program, made the following comments on his Washington-based radio show:

"Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She's got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt ... way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s.

She's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body.
I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't ... but Hannah Storm ... come on now! Stop! What are you doing?

She's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."

The next day, Kornheiser issued the following apology:

"I was wrong. This is sort of what I do, and I'm sorry for it. I'm a sarcastic, subversive guy...I'm a troll, look at me. I have no right to insult what anybody looks like or what anybody wears."

On Feb. 23, Tony told reporters he's looking forward to returning to his show after his suspension.

"I have been sent to sidelines from PTI for a while," he says. "And when I'm allowed back on PTI, I will happily go back because I love the PTI show and love all the people on the PTI show."

Kornheiser has hosted PTI since 2001.

ESPN CALLS COMMENTS 'ENTIRELY INAPPROPRIATE'

ESPN executive vice president of content John Skipper issued the following statement Tuesday evening:

"Tony Kornheiser's comments about Hannah Storm were entirely inappropriate. Hurtful and personal comments such as these are not acceptable and have significant consequences.

Tony has been suspended from PTI for two weeks. Hannah is a respected colleague who has been an integral part of the success of our morning SportsCenter."

HANNAH LIKES TO FLAUNT HER FIGURE

The athletic 5'10" Hannah is extremely fit and loves to flaunt her lean physique.

In 2008, she blogged about her personal style, saying she likes wearing short skirts, dresses and boots:

"My preference is fitted and feminine clothes and I am really happy with my style now because it's much more reflective of my personality and a lot more fun, rather than being so anchor-ish!

Cowboy boots are my favorite..I like them pretty beat up and distressed and wear them with everything from short dresses to jeans."

Storm added: "I think you can look age-appropriate but still don't have to sacrifice style."

I think women should dress appropriate for their age. She looks silly. JMO, I'm sure some will disagree.

Sometimes, I think all TV shows take a page out of AI and creates controversy for ratings. Ratings sell HIGH priced commercials. Would there be silly reality shows if the financial rewards weren't HUGE ?

I don't care how fit she is, the outfit looks ridiculous on her. The skirt isn't too short, but it is a stupid outfit that is neither fashionable nor appropriate for her job. It's an outfit for a teenager maybe - I absolutely hate it when middle-aged women try to dress like teenagers. No one over the age of 12 should be in public wearing pajama bottoms as pants either! Tony Kornheiser shouldn't have to apologize for making subjective observations - Joan Rivers and Kojo get paid a lot of money to make the same assessments on the red carpet.

Kornheiser should be able to say whatever he wants though. It's not like he made any sexist comments.

I don't think she looks bad in the outfit, but overall the outfit is a terrible selection. Red with plaid? What the hell was she thinking? If she wore the red top with a black skirt and black boots that would work, but that skirt is just horrible looking. Hoge has the look on his face like he could barely keep from laughing at her.

Tony is an ass.. HE WAS terrible MNF analyst... and should have been canned for that... but this... is just horrible on air thing to say. HANNAH IS STILL HOT TODAY... and at 47 she looks GREAT... Maybe Tony asked HAnnah out before and was turned down...

Jestor, I love your taste in music, but you have no fashion sense ...the outfit is adorable!!
It may, perhaps, be a bit young for Hannah and her stylist should have recognized that.
But when one looks as good as she does, it's easy to make these mistakes!! That particular
outfit shouldn't have been worn by anyone over the age of 30~ give or take!!
You've heard the old saying ..."Just because it comes in your size doesn't mean you should wear it"
that applies here. As far as the comment goes ...it went toooo far, it was more than a funny little jab,
it sounds as though it was meant to humiliate her!! I think Hannah is adorable and she looks fantastic~just not
in this outfit!!

Didn't we discuss this the other day?!?!

Per usual, my double standard hypothetical:

What if Storm had made comments of similar weight about say, Kornheiser's choice of suit and tie?

Would she have been suspended? Definitely not.

:?

I like the outfit. Age appropriate? Rubbish. I will say it does look a little out of place when you consider the co-anchor is wearing a rather conservative suit & tie. The outfit may not have been appropriate for the occasion, but the outfit itself is killing.

I don't buy into this "dress your age" nonsense (within reason, of course). What, just because she hit a certain age, she's supposed to act, dress, walk & talk like a frumpy little house frau? Forget it. Forty(+) isn't fatal, you know. The outfit wasn't ill-fitted nor was it particularly revealing - it may not have been appropriate for THAT venue, but what's the harm? She looked good in it, and it looked good on her.

...and that reminds me....DAMN!! I have GOT to get me some of those red boots, pronto! :D

I'm pretty sure I saw the same outfit on a Barbie doll once - not kidding. Completely inappropriate for her job and it makes it difficult to take her seriously. I don't put a lot of emphasis on fashion, and I don't think an older woman with a great figure can't wear short skirts (Tina Turner rocks them at 70) but this is just silly.

Sherry- Hannah is excellent at her job. She is a good looking woman who knows her sports. She is a man's dream. She likes to wear short dresses, skirts and heels. Where do we sign up? Seriously, I wouldn't last a day on that job co-anchoring with her. My neck would be sprained from all the glances towards her.

I'm baffled. Why exactly is that skirt "too short"? It's not like her ass is showing or something. And what does "appropriate" mean after a woman turns 40? A nun outfit?
If a woman has a great figure, she can wear the same pair of jeans or skirt that a 20 year old would wear. As long as no intimate parts are indecently exposed, the colors, fabrics, patterns, the height of the heels and the fashion sense in general has nothing to do with age.

The only exception is when said woman has a job in the public eye - her wardrobe choices should be a bit toned down when she's working, however it's not like Hannah is the spokesperson for NATO or something.

I'm glad Mr. Korn admitted that he was an ass.

I respect that she knows her sports and can pull off short dresses and heels - it was the particular combination of tacky, tight red sweater, plaid skirt and red go-go boots that I'm protesting! It was a fashion statement that reminded me of Don Cherry, like 'What the hell is that?!' A different top and black Christian Louboutins and there would be no Barbie comparison.

She looks like a slutty waitress from the 90'ies. She doesn't really have a good figure; way too scrawny for a woman. A woman is supposed to have shapes!

Korn could use a trip to the tailor though. That suit is fugly.

That outfit is the prime example of trying too hard and failing miserably. It might work on certain people in certain occasions, but that's not one of them. The only thing that is good for is drawing attention--NOTHING else. There's a difference between looking nice and looking like a cheap, drunk date. If you are on television, you are supposed to look professional, and that isn't. It crosses the line into something else--and it MIGHT work on the right person in the right situation. Doesn't work there.

Rule of thumb.....just because they make size 48 leather pants doesn't mean anybody looks good wearing them.
