The ladies are singing tonight & I'm not particularly fond of any of them other than Crystal Bowersox who sounds hauntingly like Janis Joplin. Katie Stevens & Lily Scott are okay, but I'm not sure if they have what it takes to go the distance. Right now, I don't think any of the ladies' voices are all that memorable.... other than Bowersox, that is. My early prediction is that she will be the winner.

Out of the guys (tomorrow night's group) my current fave voices are Tim Urban & Aaron Kelly. Kelly's only 16 so I hope he doesn't get stage fright & choke b/c he's got a great voice. I'm on-the-fence with Casey James & Lee Dewyze. Not sure if I like their voices or if I think they just got lucky with past performances.

I also predict a woman will definitley win this year, though it's too soon for me to say who. Maybe I'll guess after the show tonight :)

My faves are Janis Joplin girl, and this year's Megan Joy - Didi Benami.

NONE of the guys excite me, and that is a VERY good thing. So can it, B.

Katelyn Epperly from West Des Moines... biased for her to at least be on for a few weeks... whether she gets to top 12... I highly doubt it...
but you never know... she will be good on broadway, if she doesnt make it at idol.

I love the glass apprentice from MA... she will be good!! that little frame and the big voice!!! The Janis Joplin lady if she is not versitale enough will flop in two-tthree weeks...
the 20 year old from Denver area with the premature gray hair... is my favorite... something different about her and she sings with emotion and heart...not just going through
the motions...

boring, boring, boring for the most part and almost all were singing the same genre of music. I'm with Simon on song choices. Great songs for the radio or at home, but not so much on American Idol when trying to wow people.

Ellen did not come off well from what I've read. She was good in the taped segments but now that it is live, she is in a different environment, appearing to be too nice and only giving the vaguest criticisms AFTER one of the other judges has voiced theirs.

The fourth judge should be an actual music consumer, someone who is used to wasting money on this disposable, cookie-cutter stuff. Perhaps run a contest for the fourth?

The men last night were even more boring and disappointing. (Unlike Adam last year), for me, not one stands out as 'this could be the winner' or make it big. Before last night I thought Andrew Garcia but didn't like his song choice at all.

ALL THE MEN WERE TERRIBLE... and Simon was correct on each and every comment he made... WOW... this will be one long season for the judges.

Good grief the show, the talent; and the judges are boring this year. The talent is just Godly awful except the Janis Joplin woman who is really very good and maybe one or two men but otherwise none of them can sing at all. I like Ellen; I really do but she should not be a judge; she is too nice and one dimensional; Kara is ok; Randy is fine; but I don't know how the three of them will succeed without the sharp sardonic wit of Simon.

:(

Yep. From what we've seen this week, it's gonna be hard to pick a winner out of THAT bunch... Anyway...for what it's worth, I really liked John Park. He had a rich, mellow baritone sound which stood out among all of the other tenor/high tenors in the field. I liked that. There aren't too many of those out there nowadays.

Our insiders say Simon and Ellen aren't even trying to hide it. Ellen can't stand what she believes is Simon's cruelty toward contestants. And, we're told, Simon actually enjoys pissing Ellen off with his blistering critiques.

People working on the show last night tell TMZ ... it was apparent on and off camera ... Simon's tolerance level for the contestants was at an all-time low, and he knew it was making Ellen uncomfortable but clearly didn't care. As one insider put it, "He was intentionally pushing her buttons."

It all started badly when Simon showed up late for Ellen's first week of "A.I." taping and made her wait around. Producers separated the two -- who began the season sitting side-by-side -- but the tension has gotten worse.

But business is business. "A.I." is beating the Olympics, and ratings for Ellen's show skyrocketed last week. In Hollywood, contempt has its upside.

I don't watch it often, but judging from everything I've read here, it doesn't sound too hot this season...how can it be beating the Olympics?!?! It's UNAMERICAN!!

I didn't see it. They were worse than the women? You can see Simon is not in a good mood, but he is so on point. Ellen is not in the music business, so she doesn't have the background for this show.

Thankfully,Howard Stern is out. Was he really ever being considered? AI is suffering the lack of Lambert type talent . That Chris Golightly kid was good till shown the door. Other than that Garcia and the guy Kara likes with the blond curls is about it. I can't see how this show lasts unless they get back to music and not filling so much time with dribble to sell more commercials.

What the hell is wrong with America's voting? Haley Vonn should have been soooooo gone tonight - everything about her is just terrible to me!!! Most of the men are total disappointments - Tim Urban gets to stay too :? Are people watching the same show I am or is it the ones with the biggest family voting for them that get to stay?

Yeah, the spanish kid reminded me of Kris Allen. The goof balls that vote probably didn't like his hair.

Just the worst group of contestants I've ever seen/heard on American Idol. It's no longer a talent show, it's a show about pretty people who have problems that can sing a little bit.

Fuck 'em. I'm over it.

Crystal Bowersox is the only talented one.

This season is a major disappointment. I hope something interesting happens soon. It seems like all of the singers are playing it safe & singing elevator muzak. I wanna see someone get crazy & take some chances. Kara's Brad Pitt look-alike love muffin was about as interesting as a box of rocks. Even Crystal Bowersox was dull & mechanical & she was awesome in the auditions. I don't even remember the names of the girls they ended up sending home. Out of the guys, I was a little surprised they sent Greg Brady home b/c I thought his 70's schtick was at least different from everyone else's cookie cutter "safe mode."

This season has been a yawn. Image

Triple S, what did you think of Lee Dewyze's performance last night? Majorly reminded me of a young Colin James....in looks, mannerisms and sound.

Crystal had this from jump street..

This show has a major flaw...it needs a singer that the teeny boppers will spend all that disposable income on....that' s why Melinda Doolittle didn't win even though she was the best singer. Idol is a popularity contest. Singing is a big part, but you have to appeal to the asses...

Agreed. And as we all know, I'm into the more smokey soulful voicals, so Lee and Big Mike would be my choices.

A little raspier and lower, but yes I see the resemblance! He's definitely my fav, but Casey is growing on me more every week and I think Crystal is awesome. Her style is not everyones' cup of tea and probably not conducive to winning this, but she's very talented.

Jason- I think Lee Dewyse and Casey James are really good. Casey actually plays the guitar instead of strumming. Bowersox will also get a contract in her future. I like the 16 yr old ,also.
