While Hawaii took all the precautions, I felt the tsunami was underwhelming. Way anti climatic compared to the level of warnings. Talk about fucking sensationalizing something like it's gonna be a major event.....NOT. Good practice by the emergency management people, however.

There are surfers who will live for these waves. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for them. Ever see the ending of the movie Point Break?

Tidal waves are different from tsunamis. There is no above surface wave here, it is at the bottom of the water. The waves surfers ride are wind waves, 50 to 100 feet long, Tsunami waves can be 50 miles long but are not viewable above the surface.

so what, you were hoping for tragedy and devistation??? I'd say I'm thankful it hasn't been worse than what we're seeing so far.

No, not at all. I knew the people were safe by the excellent job of evacuating they did.. I was just curious to see what the tsunami would do and I was expecting something more spectacular.

Curious to see how many homes and business would be destroyed and beautiful landscape of Hawaii gone, even if no lives were taken?

Why not? This would not be the worst thing posted here today, or any other day. Call it morbid curiousity, or whatever. I like seeing tornado footage too. Ah, crap...I forgot you can watch it all in movies.

They seemed to have no major issues. I wonder how Easter Island fared, it is very close to Chile's coast compared to Hawaii and Samoa.

Attarelief...the local alert has just been lifted! Coastal (PI, fronting the Pacific Ocean) native  here. We were earlier on our toes "for approaching waves of tsunami that will hit the country between 1:00 & 2:30 in the afternoon today" (an earthquake of lesser magnitude that struck Chile in 1960 generated 6-meter tsunamis round these parts 24hrs later).

I havd an honest question.
I understand if you're doing the rolling eye  thingy.
But what does it mean when you do it 12 times?!
Does it mean that you're REALLY REALLY rolling eyes at him , you're rolling you're eyes 12 times or you simply clicked on It way too many times without realizing it ?!

Yeah Tom, your state did an incredible job. Props to the State and its' people.

Steveo, how the fuck was HI able to predict how large the wave would be? I's not like in the movies, where you have a 40 foot high wall of water you know....Hawaii was exemplary today. Glad you are ok om, and glad here was no damage.

Mahalo Dean...these things aren't Hawaii 5-0 type waves...you can't surf em....they suck the water back...virtually empty harbors...then they surge back...over and over again...no guarantee that the first wave is the strongest either....nobody knows...you just ride it out and hope....these things travel as fast as a jet airliner....Hawaii was ON it and kicked butt...my heart bleeds for the people in Chile.....the world is fucking with us and I ain't in the mood for BS stupid ass remarks right now....
