Ugh. So so SO many artists that are 10,000,000 times better and struggling selling a few thousand, and this run of the mill "oooh look how crazy I am because I wear funny costumes" pop tart sells 10,000,000? Severely disappointed in the current state of music.

Agreed. GaGa's somewhat decent (when compared to many other pop artists) but her "look at how edgy and random I am" schtick is getting old. Also, The Fame Monster is INCREDIBLY weak compared to her first album... I doubt that she will have very much longevity.

I dunno, when I first heard Lady Gaga, it was like awful somehow got a new meaning. Seriously, some of the worst excuse for music I've ever heard, and people are jumping on the Lady (Dude?) Gaga bandwagon left and right. I really don't get it. And she (he?) stole the vocal melody in "Poker Face" from McAuley Schenker Group's "Anytime".

I don't get it either - how is it any different from the other dance-pop crap they foist on us? I don't see a difference at all. Terrible all around.

That's the big joke... it's not ANY different. People are being convinced that it's this new revolutionary thing somehow. Subliminal messages, maybe?

Hell, I'd much rather listen to this:

At least there's some guitar and other organic instrumentation and an organic hook to the tune, even if it is very bubble gum pop.

I can't believe U2 is releasing a new album so close to their last release. There's usually a much longer break between new albums. This sounds something like a follow-up to their last one, though. Interesting.

Usually the effort that follows closely behind the last one is a dull effort at best. It could be they have left over material from their latest, which if true, won't be good at all. Their last effort sucked to be honest J.

I still haven't heard it in full because the singles didn't pique my interest at all. I think U2 is mainly at the stage of their career where they realize it's time to maximize the gains they stand to make in the time they have. Bono's sounding THIN in concert these days.

It's grown on me. I don't hate it, and some decent songs, but on the whole definitely not their best effort. And Bono's higher register is getting thin, and I feel like many of these songs were in his upper register and weren't that pleasing to the ear. I think he should sing his next album in a deeper register where his voice is more full. But when you go back and listen to their older music is where the last CD really pales and not very creative musically. But, still, I enjoy half of the album just b/c I like them and appreciate, at least, they tried something new, even if somewhat of a miss. But, definitely, not a CD I listen to very much at all.

U2's last good album was in 2000...nothing since has been very memorable. I agree with Deano that their latest one sucked.

There's no hooks on the latest CD on, really, any of the songs, to me, to make the songs grab you, except that stupid Sexy Boots song that I skip every time; although, that song does rock live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuIs2ZyUUD0

But I love, love, love Magnificent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHt4LaBFENo

U218 Singles is the perfect U2 album - has all their best for sure. I'll listen to their new CD but don't hold out much hope

I have that, too. I love it.

They need to come up with some great music again, like New Year's Day.

ABSOLUTELY!! I love New Year's Day!

U2 has put out such consistently amazing music until recently that I feel they still have one great album left in them creatively.

A song I feel is a masterpiece, and an underrated song: Tomorrow
