Same here.

Speaking thereof, check this out. All this talk of emotional vocal performances, this has to be right up there at the top. Marc Anthony singing a song to his daughter at a show in NYC about 10 years ago. There is a danger in injecting too much emotion into a song, and how he managed to finish it is amazing--much less agree to release it on a dvd.

Wow! Not sure if I totally dig the song or not, but now that is definitely delivering a song!

Not my favorite either, but that vocal is something else.

This is more my style. You Sang To Me (in a radically different--and much improved--version) from the same show.

Now you're talking, always liked that song. Enjoyed that, thanks!

Here is an example of vocals I enjoy the delivery on too. His vocals might be too earthy/raspy for some, but I just love his tone (lol as ya can tell by my love of that type of vocal tone, i.e., EM) and really like his delivery on this one......ya, even the goofy looking theatrics near the end. I just love a singer that gets right into it and feels what he's singing.......I totally dig that, especially the chorus on this one. I'm finding the older I get the less I enjoy higher range vocals as much, I like my vocals to have some texture to them, resonance/tone or whatever you want to call it. That type of tone just seems to come across more raw/emotion IMO.

how Bob Dylan makes it into the top 1000 singers is beyond me. Top Writers, quite possibly....but he's proof positive that singing ability is NOT required to be a singer.

Exactly. Bob Dylan should be on the list of the 100 WORST singers. Great songwriter, but one of the worst singers EVER.

Sorry Dean but I'm siding with Matt on this one. As much as I love the Good Ole Hockey Song and it IS probably THE most recognized song. I don't consider Stompin Tom as rock, IMO he's country. The Guess Who are Canadian rock legends. Love me some Burton Cummings, even though he doesn't rank in my top 5, he's got one of THE most unique voices out there.......you don't see many people trying to cover him.......his voice is just that hard to duplicate. Guess Who have some great tunes......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfPJJko-FM0

DId you see him at The Olympics? Susan (Triple S) was nice enough to rip the video for me and it was a STUNNING performance.

:) What makes it even more so is he's 62 years old! And on the keys? - still one of the best. OT - working on the Loverboy recording from the Olympics right now, also a stellar performance from Mike Reno. He sounds great!

They didn't do any stuff from the last album did they?

BTW, Burton's performances of "I'm Scared" and "You Saved My Soul" ...  ... wow.

No unfortunately they didn't - I think all those Olympic performances were about the 'hits' from all the bands who performed - which is OK I think, for what they were trying to accomplish.

"You Saved My Soul" one of my faves of his.

First of all, where is Elton John on there? Unbelievable he's left off. I love his vocals over the years, especially compared to some of those on there.

I don't expect him to be on here b/c of limited output, but, for me, one of my favorite voices b/c of the different tones and textures he can change it up with, deeper vocals and lighter vocals and his falsetto. Roland Orzabal

Raoul & The Kings of Spain live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya8457U5eBc - great bass on this song

Like that one. :)

I'm still LMAO that somebody like Iggy Pop? Seriously? Iggy Pop???? is on that list above and M Sweet isn't. Michael could sing circles around most on that list......guy has a stunning voice. Great power, tone, vibrato, delivery....you name it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zsbyl0uXV0

Yes I agree. I can't argue with that. Those 3, you know personally I don't think one is clearly better than the other, they are all equally as good.

I recorded the whole show from Much Music, Deb. I don't think anyone has put clips on YT, other than some low-quality live shots. He's got a couple on his MySpace page too, I think.

I've always said you don't even attempt that song live unless you are very good--and that might be the best I've ever heard it done.

Personally I think Roy Kahn from Kamelot should be higher up that #14. He's absolutely incredible. He's a former opera singer and mixes those techniques very well with progressive metal.

Here's some of his best work.

Elizabeth pt. 1: Mirror, Mirror

Elizabeth pt. 2-3: Requiem for the Innocent, Fall From Grace

I completely agree. Khan has incredible power, range and control. I also feel that Russell Allen from Symphony X deserves to be much higher on this list.

Russell's pretty good, but Michael Romeo is the centerpiece of that band. You focus on Khan when you see Kamelot. You focus on Romeo when you see Symphony X

Such a tough question, but off the top of my head:

1) Steve Perry
2) Jackie Wilson
3) Aretha Franklin
4) George Michael
5) Sam Cooke

For me Perry would not be on the top of my list for kick ass rock and roll.
