Gunbot, do you think there's a political undercurrent to this alleged suit because Pacquiao's running for office?

Everything in the Phils has a political undercurrent.

No. I think these guys wanted to nail somebody but were afraid of really going after icons like Martin, Lea Salonga, etc. Like most former colonies, there is still a caste system and despite Arnel's success here, in the Philippines he is still on the outskirts of the industry looking in having no high profile bloodlines attached to his name. Charice has her young age and inexperience as an excuse if they come down really hard on her but Arnel is a good target, especially fronting an American band (part of the the big bad imperialistic empire) not to mention I wouldn't put it past some of these jealous entertainers to lobby in secrecy for some penalty to be leveled against Pineda.

FILIPINOS SHOULD SHUTUP ABOUT THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
Written on March 14, 2010 – 11:31 am by Jerico

I am getting tired of listening to Pinoys complain and criticize Filipino singers do a rendition of the ‘Lupang Hinirang’ at Pacquiao fights. Every year, some of our great singers perform their heart out and yet it’s never enough for those who can’t even sing. Late victim is Arnel Pineda who is frontman singer of Journey.

I was at the stadium watching the fight LIVE and I thought he did a great job. His voice is amazing. I have also been to his concert with Journey and I thought that this guy should sing the national anthem at Pacquiao fights. But every year, there are a few who always complain of how the anthem was not properly sung in regards to how the law dictates it to be sang.

I believe that if it’s good enough for Pacman, it’s good enough for me. Who are these people criticizing of how Arnel butchered the song? I bet they can’t even carry or sing a proper note let alone have the courage to sing infront of 50,994 screaming fans not counting millions watching around the world.

Sheesh, enough of this already. Instead of criticizing, let us continue to support our singers. I mean, after all, how many Filipinos do you see each year sing our anthem infront of millions of people? Enough said.

It sure makes the Philippines look bad, taking away from Manny's big win, bickering yet again about the national anthem. Like was said, how many times do they get to have their national anthem sung in front of so many people worldwide watching the fight and to have someone who is a great representative of their country, Arnel, who did not leave when he started making the bucks, and here they are tearing his rendition apart. Unbelievable.

Proof that Filipnos are just as capable as people here at MR when it comes to directing criticism toward their own kababayan. Shall we label them racists also?

And Arnel touts his citizenship like a badge of honor and this is what he gets even though he had done more for the Philippines than some of those elected officials.

At least people in the media are starting to defend Arnel's rendition.

I also think Arnel should just pay the fine and leave it at that. April is coming soon and he needs to be here for the new album. If he goes to jail and will not be able to be here in time for the new album, MR will be in a frenzy and will crucify him for that.

Arnel, take the US citizenship being offered to you.

He can pretend he's Lil Wayne and write music while he's in prison. What else would there be to do besides playing Tong-its and drinking Tanduay?

Saint John wrote:- That was a rare act of classlessness on Manny's part when he threw the double handed "clapping" punch. He's better than that.

I believe he is just too fast, it looked two punches  Kidding aside, he was just playing with that idea. That punch is a famous style here in PH by an actor, the late FPJ.

Saint John wrote:- Pacquiao is not going to retire before the mega-fight. Filipinos should roundly reject the notion of voting for him and make him stay in boxing!

Already did when he lost before. But I got a feeling he will win this time around.

Late victim is Arnel Pineda who is frontman singer of Journey.

I wish AP did not raised that end note though just to be safe. But if he didn't raise that note, he will be crucified as usual. Poor Arnel :(

I agree.

Probably Arnel is getting used to criticisms, he also had done more for Journey than any of the other replacement singers but still.......
