Because, boy, were you right! Bush had the Dow at its historic high of 14,000 and it's nose-dived ever since congress changed hands. They demokunts regained congress in January of 2007 and that year saw the Dow have its worst one year plunge in history. Way to go, guys!

You can't be fucking serious. You aren't that stupid. You own this abysmal economy and two wars, one of which is illegal. Congratulations. Yeah dude, the country went into the shitter because of the Dems....ok. Are you drinking tonight? I am.

The war started in 2003 and the Dow was at 14,000 when there was a changing of the guard in 2007. Things were going great. Since then it's been pure shit. Obama promised how many jobs in the first 6 months? It's been 14 months and there's no end in sight for the economic woes.

The Bush economy was crap...it was held together by deregulation and 'stimulus' tax reduction to temporarily improve confidence. He did NOTHING really to help the economy....That was one of my greatest critiques of him at the time. He would rather rebuild the middle east then invest in the people of the United States. The crash had nothing to do with the change of leadership in congress. It had to do with the housing crash and the bank crash that this caused, and the Dow followed. 8yrs of a Bush economy is what we are having to turn around....8yrs of policies that invested in foreign affairs rather then domestic growth. I find it ironic that the last two Republican administrations had this exact same proplem...the first Bush with the S&L crisis and recession...and W with his housing and bank crash and depression. Yeah, Republican leadership has such a glowing history.

And, if the Dow is some kinda concrete indicator, tell me where it was when Bush left office, and where it is now.

Dan, the more I look into it, the more I realize neither party has a clue how to spend wisely or fix a sagging economy.

Much of the current defecit is tied into the two wars and the bailouts, but Obama has been a spendthrift as well...far beyond what is necessary to help us get out of a recession...sort of past the boiling point.

The Dubbya Administration ran up debt at an even higher rate than the Reagan Administration. This current Administration could see the highest rates of inflation increases since Nixon and Carter.

So no one has any idea what they're doing, ultimately.

I almost completely agree! Which is exactly why I've been saving as much money as possible so I can go on a nice discounted shopping spree when more and more people lose more of their homes and land. Working hard and being diligent in times like these can be viewed as an opportunity, and that's exactly why I'm for Obama continuing to intentionally tank the economy. :) And, of course, the republicans will do their part as well. Team work!

With respect to people SUPPORTING reform once they are TRUTHFULLY informed about it, there are many polls reflecting that trend. Here's the most recent:

In the latest NEWSWEEK Poll, the majority of Americans are opposed to President Obama's health-care reform plan—until they learn the details.

When asked about Obama's plan (without being given any details about what the legislation includes), 49 percent opposed it and 40 percent were in favor. But after hearing key features of the legislation described, 48 percent supported the plan and 43 percent remained opposed.

Says who?
The leading Keynsian economists in favor of deficit spending (Stiglitz, Krugman, Baker, Reich) have all argued that there is not enough spending going on.
Those who say otherwise are mostly Friedman economists who didn't want any demand-side stimulus.

A vast majority of the debt is directly attributable to putting two wars on the ledger for the first time, as well as the bailouts. It does make it look worse than it is.

But the poll I posted shows that it's perception that matters...given that a noticeable majority APPROVES of healthcare reform once they're INFORMED what it encompasses. So long as the Chickenhawk 5 and Coulter still have the public ear, misconceptions will go a long way towards affecting policy directives.

If we're talking perceptions, sure, you're right.
The GOP started banging the drum of "fiscal austerity" as soon as Obama was sworn in.
If we're talking about how much gov't spending is needed to fill a 2 trillion dollar hole in the economy, that's a diff. issue.

Point taken.

Anyway, that does fall in lockstep with DeLay's comments about the GOP unanimously endorsing entirely debt- and defecit- financed legislation during the Bush years - and gleefully using reconciliation.

You needn't start some diatribe there, G&T. I lived in the UK for seven years, and I'm very familiar with Parliamentary procedure.

You know as well as I do that charges could well be forthcoming, as they should be.

Not trying to start a diatribe. Having listened to parts of and /or read transrcipts of some of the key testimonies before the Parliamentary enquiry into the the Iraq war, it doesnt seem that they were pressing Blair to hard about the legality angle. Also the testemony of Lord Goldsmih, whilst it hardly cast Blair in a good light, is sufficient enough cover for Blair regarding the legality of the war from the British perspective.

The only body which might prosecute is the ICC, but they have no ability to prosecute on the crime of agression as the definition of that is not codified (it is being considered this year) . If it were, and it were made retrospective, then the UK government would have to make a political decison to turn him over.... no Labour or Conservative govt would do that.

I know a handful of people in Westmister, no one sees charges coming

Fact Finder, you are a complete loser. Every congressperson wants the president there come election time. He brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Trying to compare Obama to W is pretty lame. NO ONE wanted W and in fact, NO ONE used W for campaigning. Obama was down for a bit, but anyone with a brain can see the dude has re engaged and is leading like he campaigned.

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi talks “Deem and Pass,” President Barack Obama is going a different route – he’s talking to Fox News.

In an “extended, exclusive” interview tomorrow he will sit down with Special Report anchor Bret Baier to make his health care reform pitch to the FNC audience. What a long, strange trip it’s been.

The interview will air in full at 6pmET tomorrow and will take place earlier in the afternoon. “We welcome the opportunity to sit down with the President and try to get some specifics on the health care legislation,” said Baier in making the announcement right after NoonET today on Fox News

The President has a set of balls. None of the republicans dare go on MSNBC, LOL...They all play it safe and do Hannity and O Reilly interviews. Another difference in parties. Say whatever you want about Obama Lie Finder, but guy still has good enough approvals to beat any of your guys.

For the same reason O is going on Fox..NOBODY WATCHES MSNBC.

Maybe not as much as Fox, and that's a shame. Matthew and Maddow are so much better than the garbage on Fox. Another reason why Fox has more viewers is that they are republican. Republicans are programmed to follow Limbaugh and Hannity; follow somebody. LOL, Fox holds the hands of the republican voter, it's that simple.

Like I said, your momentum is running out of gas...I once thought the GOP would clean up on election day; not so any more. Polls are already changing, and I would bet money on the GOP still being a minority in BOTH chambers, LOL.

Leave then, see if I care. There are plenty of practicing physicians ready and willing to take their place. There's a new sherrif in town, and things are changing Cons. Get used to it.

Just amazing that you people can support a broken system, one that favors the almighty insurance company, and pisses on the American citizen. Just amazing. People are dying in this country for lack of health care, and to think if they simply lived north of us, they wouldn't have to die. Think about that. I mean after all, you are the party of "right to life" correct? What a hypocrisy the republican party is.

You know things are bad when another Democrat in a blue state is in trouble.

Barbara Boxer (D-California) is barely outpacing her potential GOP rivals.

Barbara Boxer (D) 46%
Carly Fiorina (R) 40%

Barbara Boxer (D) 46%
Chuck Devore (R) 40%

Barbara Boxer (D) 43%
Tom Campbell (R) 41%

This was a seat formerly assumed as "safe Democratic".

I have it on excellent authority that the NRSC (National Republican Senatorial Committee) is so optimistic about some of their races (ones formerly deemed "competitive", but now "likely Republican") that it is prepared to shift funding away from these races to other, more marginal races (ones also formerly deemed "safe Democratic") with the hope of picking up one or two of those as well.

I think you missed the point entirely. When Barbara Boxer and Russ Feingold are running scared, it's not the GOP that's "out of gas". The GOP is on target to have an election comparable to 1980 or 1994. Bad bad news for Democrats.

The "big swing" as you call is is likely to be worse than what you imagine, with 7-8 Senate seats and 50-60 House seats lost by Democrats.

Enjoy the Pyrrhic victory on health care, if it comes to that ....
