Journey's Greatest Hits jumps all the way from #128 to #83. Revelation re-enters at #199.

Maybe from the Oprah rerun?

Now is the time to certify Revelation as 2X platinum.

I have to admit that I thought the band taking off this summer was a good idea; rest, avoiding over exposure, yada, yada, yada. Now though, I'm wondering if all the success they are having at this moment can be recaptured again in 12 months and if it would be better for them to do a limited tour this summer just to take advantage of what is happening on the charts right now.

Yeah, Revelation is def. near double platinum status. Journey also has some other albums that havent been certified yet:

Greatest Hits Live 850,000 sold due to be certified platinum
Essential Journey 900,000 copies sold due to be certified double platinum
Greatest Hits is very close to being 16 multi platinum

For DVD videos:

Greatest Hits 1978-1997 has sold over 550,000 copies and is due for 5 multi-platinum status

It's great to see Revelation back on the charts.

I agree they shouldn't have taken the entire year off. I short tour may have carried some of the momentum forward, I think we both brought this up in the past. We'll just have to wait and see what happens next year. I'm still kinda hoping for a couple one-off shows this year.

Journey revelation soundscan numbers as of this week: 708,000 copies sold

Remember though, soundscan numbers are much lower than RIAA numbers, so revelation has to be near 900,000+ by now.

Yeah so 708,000 (2) for two disks means 1.4 million+ sold, so near double platinum status. I bet its already double platinum status with RIAA numbers, they just havent certified it yet.

Journey has 3 or 4 other albums that need updated certifications too.

Using the double math, The Eagles last album is 7X Platinum. The big difference being, all the Eagles songs on both discs are new.

Still hanging at #115 this week. Keep cranking them out, Sony. 600 more weeks and this album will be right up there with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Journey's Greatest Hits is at #46 this week. Not so much as a jump upward as it is the rest of the chart sliding down. The #19 album from the chart only sold 18k copies (Kylie Minogue).

In other news, Bret Michaels debuts at #14 with his solo album, Custom Built (22k sold).

An indicator of how music sales are going right now can be seen by looking at the Twilight Soundtrack. It is the #4 Album on the chart with 45K in sales this week. To put that in perspective, Journey debuted at #5 with 106,000 in 2008.

A lot of albums getting top 10 debuts now but in reality not even hitting platinum anymore. A high debut number doesn't really mean shit if you can't move product consistently, which appears to be the case for a lot of these newer acts.

Pink Floyd, a favorite band of mine has been around for ages but have only had five number one albums, yet they have gone over 100 million in album sales just in North America alone. Proof enough that it's not where you debut but where you finish that really counts.

I will say though that in this new age of music downloads, the singles charts is where the the real game is, seeing how long you can stay in the top ten and if you can get two million digital purchases or not.
