Saturday 13th January
After more than a quarter-century of interviews, they rarely make me nervous anymore. But I admit, my stomach was knotted for most of last night in advance of a phoner with Journey. Classic Rock had been trying to speak to someone - anyone? - from the band since the whole lip-synching controversy erupted back in the summer. Requests for statements regarding the accusations were repeatedly ignored. When the dust had settled a little, interviews were confirmed and then mysteriously blown out on multiple occasions. Then came the unexpected message: Friday night, call Ross Valory at 10pm UK time, Neal Schon half an hour later. To be honest, my initial fear was that it would all go pear-shaped. Valory answered the phone but was "busy" and requested to talk after Schon, who was in a fairly noisy restaurant (in San Francisco, I assume) when we hooked up. Then Ross failed to pick up five times afterwards and I had to call the band's management office to find out what was going on before we finally connected.
Both conversations were revealing. Obviously, I can't pass on the exact details of what was said (we'd quite like you to buy the darned magazine!), but the pair did address the Augeri rumours with reasonable calm and good grace - one denying them more emphatically than the other. That's all I'm really at liberty to impart until the story is printed in the issue after next. But I will say this.... both Neal and Ross seemed hugely fired up by the arrival of new singer Jeff Scott Soto, which augers well for the already largely sold-out UK tour that begins on March 1.

from the same guys who were fired up for JSS... yet to fire him in MAY of that year...

Gunbot, I have since ignored each and every post he makes. I simply skip right over it and pay it absolutely no attention. You are a bigger man than I for trying.

You and your mini me tried to get me to call a voicemail on your phone a confession from Neal of everything you alleged during tapegate. I simply refused, big deal.

You're about a backstage pass away from being back on board w/ Journey anyway.

People reserve the right to change their minds. Hell, I was psyched about Arnel coming on at first and through the several months after Revelation. If you dig through my old posts you can probably find me speaking in incredible superlatives about him. Since then, my enthusiasm waned and waned on account of his apparently not working to correct the very correctable problems he had with diction, phrasing, and screaming that can easily be fixed with hard work. Oh well.

Changing your mind is one thing, and natural Matt but his history here is absolutely laughable with his ability to completely reshape what were absolutely stone cold, lead pipe LOCKED IN as final opinions depending on who he associates with at the time.

I won't presume to speak for Dean, but yeah, objectively there's some flip-flopping. I've gone back and read some of this shit for entertainment's sake. So what? To me, Dean and Journey are like jilted, on-again, off-again lovers. They were in love, then they had a huge falling out when they cheated on him (Tapegate), then they reconciled (enter JSS+Backstage passes+fun trips around the country), then, as nearly all couples who try to reconcile after a huge incident of infidelity, eventually the bottom fell out once again and old habits returned (the JSS dismissal - akin to cheating on your sig other once again), finally breaking Behshad's camel's back. It's just human nature.

fine you're amused by him but a lot of his crackpot bs that he foists off as fact (rev has sold only 500 k and sells for $7) get percieved as fact when he repeats it over and over and over.

And when you try get me to blanketly claim that a voicemail that says "I haven't had Augeri's voice in my earpiece since 2003" is a recorded admisson by a bandmember that every single show from the Warfield in 2003 through some point in 2006 was completely lip synched (his holding LOL) beginning to end, of COURSE I will get pissed and call dirty politics.

I don't think a lot of what gets said here is perceived as fact. This place is mostly for entertainment purposes only and a majority of members understand that.

lol, I certainly don't perceive it as fact.

But, one overarching lesson of the whole thing is that there's a reason it's often said not to meet or get close with the celebs you really admire or enjoy, because you might not like what you find.

I don't think your partner would agree with nor appreciate those sentiments. He goes CRAZY if you don't believe every word of his crusades.
AR was able to goad him into leaking private news about a bandmember's health crises and issues that eventually found its way to these pages by simply goading him with "I don't believe you really do know JSS."

Ask Joepa, I suspect he was trying to prove a point to Deano!!

It took me several hours to figure out it was an old thread, I thought we had
a new member that was tryin' to catch up on/verify the news/rumors!?!?

I think some people don't give a Rats behind, that would include me. However, I don't believe that was the point of digging this up as MG said above.

So did I Lula, but jeez louise, at some point you have to let it go. Do you have to like it? No, by why keep complaining? Either you move on or you forgive and forget about it.
